Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread IV
Thanks for the ideas for the courses gentlemen.
G-CPTN, may I suggest one card with a zero annual fee, left at home with an easy PIN. And do scan the cards you carry them and keep those pics on your mail. So you would have the cards (numbers) to cancel with a single call in a VISA blocking number- I don't know if AmEx, Master Card or Diners offer a similar facility.

Evening,
My little Wx station has a "feels Like" setting should I set it, peaked at 45c late this afternoon, OAT 37.5c.
It has eased now Just over 32c which is the same as the OAT.
Nasty night ahead, we have no A/C downstairs, never felt it needed, bedrooms are all North facing hardly any direct sun.
As we age we are feeling the need.

Five a.m. our Tramontana arrived, howling and treating at the windows. About eight degrees colder this morning. Warnings for heat have changed to warnings of high waves.

Morning folks.
Another public holiday, although oddly, Mercadona are open , but only till 15.00.
It's 24c with a heat warning for this aftenoon when 35 c in the shade has been guessed at.
Have decided to go visit son for a few days next month. £150 return air fares. In on eJ to Gatwick, back on BA Cityflyer from Southampton.

Morning all,
I drip, 35c from an overnight low of 30c.
there seems to be a glop of hot air coming out of the interior down the Competa - Torrox valley.
It's cooler either side.
Suspect the A/C will be running all day.
My girl in Mucky Donna thinks they are open 'till 14:00 - big surprise.
Might go to Aldi if I can park.
When you go to the UK do you hire a car ? good move by the way.

Morning folks. Went to meet the electrician at the safari camp who was supposed to have a new transformer for me for the CCTV. He wasn't there, all we came away with was a flat tyre. Pumped it up there and got home on it. A bit lucky as difficult to change a wheel on sand.
Nice day. Another 5 ltrs of hooch off the production line and bottled.

Have had a few wasps appear in our upstairs tv lounge, which we have despatched as they came.
Decided to make an effort to see where they are coming from.
We have a wood house and they seem to be in the filled cavity between the double wooden walls.
Have squirted Raid in all the holes, which pissed them off, by the sounds, but has not stopped them.
A good look around outside and I can see where they are entering.
More Raid failed to deter them so I am now waiting for the wasp removal man to come, should be about 1500 as we are the fourth call today.
First time we have had a problem, with wasps, in the 20 years we have lived here.

Talmacapt, just one of many types of wasp. I believe your variety do not reuse the same site next year.
Raid, as you found out, is ineffective. A better solution is a power that is puffered into the nest entrance. The wasps do the rest taking it in to the nest. Do not attempt this during the day. It is best done after dark when they are less active.
Even so they will react so best be gloved, hatted, scarfed and quick. I had some US Anti Wasp clothing and they were very persistent.
For some different burrowing wasps I used a petrol/shampoo mix and still found viable larvae in the smoking nest.

Is the hooch drunk from a pint glass or from a wine glass ?Ex-Ascot wrote: ↑Mon Aug 16, 2021 9:33 amMorning folks. My family on North Coast of Mallorca for weeks hol., boat trips cancelled as too rough. They are annoyed as Port Soller harbour is calm. Yes, but....

My dear chap neither. In a straight, with ice, slices of our fresh limes and tops of soda, ginger beer or in this case bitter lemon.

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread IV
An interesting conundrum. For 2022 it's been suggested we stay with family on the isle of Mallorca. As is so often the case, despite being physically so near, getting there is more complex than were we living in the UK, involving car+train+(ferry or plane)+bus+train+tram.
Irritating considering that heading in a fast boat headed 180° out of Port Roses or Empuriabrava would bring us to Port Soller in a matter of (expensive) hours. Likewise, taking off in a light aircraft from the Empuriabrava dropzone and again flying due south to Palma would be even quicker. Mrs OFSO has veteo'd hiring the Sky Rats Twotter for the trip as they would "drop us off" at our destination without landing. Also, pick-ups for the return are problematical.
I think our friend's Italian powerboat looks the likely choice....

Took a run up into Oxfordshire earlier, had a massive (illegal) fried breakfast with a friend of mine, Himalayan chugged up there comfortably, nice run out, behind with the chores now.

The wife's sister and brother-in-law have had a bad turn and they are both in a hospice/care home. She doesn't want to travel from Aberdeen to Norwich to see them by road or rail so we are going to have to fly.
I have known from the oil industry in the 1970s that the Aberdeen/Norwich route is the most expensive per mile in the world and it hasn't changed.
£1,111.97 for two people return.

That is a scandalous amount of money! It's a pity you can't get together with another couple and charter an Aztec or summat!fareastdriver wrote: ↑Mon Aug 16, 2021 7:20 pmThe wife's sister and brother-in-law have had a bad turn and they are both in a hospice/care home. Ouch!
I can understand not wanting to do a 9-10 hour road trip.
How much is rail fare?
Saw this when I searched for the distance:
Aberdeen-Norwich from $223 - Cheap Flights from Aberdeen ...

Find the best deals on flights from Aberdeen (ABZ) to Norwich (NWI). Compare prices from hundreds of major travel agents and airlines, all in one search.

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread IV
There are cheaper flights but not at the time that we have to travel. The rail fare is peanuts by comparison but it takes so long.
