Next door have 3 Ridgebacks who would lick you to death if you got over the fence. They dig up the garden, that was, and *sh*t* all over the place. At least our guards are house trained. Food, vets fees and compensation if they get out and chase a pregnant cow and it aborts. I think 10 euros a night is cheaper. Also dogs will bark at anything. Not getting up every time a dog barks. Our chaps only bark if it is an identified genuine threat. The dogs next door disappear inside if there is a big cat around. That may be a solution but how many tins of kitty cat does a leopard need a day.
Reading that, I feel greatly blessed by my two Alsatian guard dogs. Yes, they do *****, but that's OK. Shovelling that up and dumping it in the burn is a routine morning chore which I don't event think about.

Vet bills are minimal. If one of the dogs needs serious medical treatment, it'll get a jag in the paw and that will be that.

Not many leopards hereabouts. A Jaguar or two, but the occupants tend not to get out until I've talked to the dogs.

The only big cat around here died last month. The dogs were afraid of him, I must admit.

Have been down to the local farm to check if I might be needed for lambing. There are are five or six ewes doing that stargazing thing which indicates imminent birthing. One of them is a bit glassy-eyed, which indicates an incipient problem.

Can't touch the Sherry just yet.

Leonbergers are large and intimidating if we don't tell them to shut up and behave. Cleaning up after them is a job delegated to the teenager in the house, so I sidestep that one for the most part. We do get mountain lions around here, but I suspect they'd think twice about tackling a dog their size, especially with accompanying human. The cat would undoubtedly win, but it would probably understand that there was a good chance it would be injured in the fight and so would rather avoid it and go after something easier.

As for vet bills, $ouch, but most of the big ones have been related to breeding, so that's sort of self-inflicted by us.

I never had any luck with my Jetex (not 'Jim') - not enough oomph.

This 'make your own aircraft thing' seems to be catching on... a "resting due to Covid-19" flying instructor friend is making this...

I am tempted to buy either the Stuka or the Lancaster in this range and build it next week, while facing the derision of my better half who will take it as final proof of fecklessness and idleness!

Llondel, there was a Leonberger in the village. On the dog walks most of the others kept clear, all except out Scottie pup all of 6 months old. She loved the Leonberger. She would jump up biting his raggies and the pair would walk together.

Leos are generally very good with small dogs. Not sure if I've posted pictures of Kepler with a dachshund from last year. Some small dogs do prefer to stay well clear, I guess they're more intimidated.

Observing dogs of various sizes around our village, it seems that the smaller ones are the aggressors, whereas the larger ones just ignore them.

Big dogs have nothing to prove, they can just stand there. When she first arrived in the US, our oldest would ignore all the little yappy chihuahuas (of which there were probably a dozen on the street) as they ran out into their fenced front gardens and squeaked at her as we walked by, but the few times there was a deep bark, implying a bigger dog, she would at least look in that direction. Our little dog weighed in at 117lb yesterday, she's filling out.

A late start today as grey skies and drizzle did not exactly encourage leaping out of bed. Or hurrying before, during and after breakfast. Or anything. Except sitting on the sofa, yawning.

Morning all.

The forecasted rain did not materialise. It is actually a bright, part sunny day.

Went out for a supplies top up, as public holidays on Thursday and Friday. Mercadona who are shut both days was rammed, but well stocked. Other large supermercados are open over the holiday.

Morning all,
Thick low cloud, cool @ 14c, no rain.

Might go to El shops mañana to avoid the Wednesday National Famine shopping for Thursday/Friday.
Not used to this, I wonder if we can go a full week , usually shop nearly every day, I like fresh bread.

Dogs went out 08.00 and strangely back by 11.00 they now resting. When we can we are going to fence a lump of land off so they can't do a runner.

One or two jobs to do, minor stuff.

is all

Our Scottie is like that, the big dog that is. She never barks except after dark when she puts on her big dog bark. Against yappy dogs like Jack Russells she either shortens her length and doubles her width or just ignores them. In our village they seem to come in pairs but she seems to become bigger than both together.
