SM Has blepharitis among her other troubles and as such she tries all she can to be rid of it.
She recently ordered two products from the UK and they are both stuck in customs.
I have sent the required paperwork and have just received the expected invoice.
The first product about £25 they want 57€ to clear customs.
Bugger Brexit.

Of things African....
I have out in the library / bar, on the bookshelf, a lonely planet guide to West Africa (Actually Titled 'Travel Survival Kit')....I purchased this book from a second hand bookshop in the suburb of Tugun, maybe in about 1993?...
Fascinating book, with tips on where to stay & where to eat & what scams to be wary of etc., and of course West Africa being what it is countless coups & other uprisings since then...
But inside the book I found a postcard, never sent I guess, no postage stamp, addressed to 'Barclays Bank Main Branch', the body of the postcard is in a language I have never found out, not even my Highly educated Zimbabwean neighbour can decipher....the picture on the postcard is of two 'Fuzzy Wuzzy' warriors with shields, and it is from Khartoum, Sudan, dated 28th November 1968.
There is also a photocopy of a Doctors certificate from Dr N Robinson, consulting rooms - 104 Medical Centre Foreshore Cape Town/ 6 Arthurs Seat Centre Main Road Sea Point / 36a Ave La Croix Sea Point., this is dated 23/4/68.
However on Earth these documents from so long ago came to be hidden within a second hand book in Southern Gold Coast suburb bookstore I'll never know.....but it sure makes for an interesting conversation piece!
I think I can take a picture of the writing on the back of the post card if any are willing to have a go at identifying it?

A present was sent to us from the UK by member of our family - for insurance purposes (she thought) she wrote value of £100, arrived with 21% customs duty plus 11% post Brexit charges to pay. Thanks Boris, you useless incompetent w*nker. We now buy from amazon.es and even some of their UK-sourced stuff has a surcharge.

Yes please post picture of language!
Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread IV
Docs cert., but you are not meant to read Doctors things anyway...
Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread IV
Front of the postcard....And I only ever knew of 'Fuzzy Wuzzies' as the helpers of Australian Troops in WW2 in PNG!
I bet these two are no longer alive, and never could ever have guessed where their images would turn up!!!

The body of writing on the Post card....the date & Khartoum are easily read , above 'post card' on the RHS is 'c/o Barclays Bank Main Branch', no physical address as such...
Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread IV
I reckon it's Hungarian as there is a mention of Magyar in the middle.
Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread IV
Okay, yes I think I see it now...but you could well be correct, no one in all these years have been able to identify it...

I hear hints of Dutch and German in there, reading it aloud. Sadly the lovely Lola, who is Polish but multi-lingual, isn't here right now. I'm going to print it off and keep it for the return of her and Siegfried.

The salutation is "Kedves Dorie es Beci" . Googled Kedves and it returned Hungarian for Dear which fits the standard salutation form. So probably Hungarian.

Cold steel. They don't like it up 'em, yer know.
I'll bet the great grandchilden of those warriors are in the queue from Dunkirk; Dieppe etc for onward passage on an overloaded and overpriced Zodiac bound for a gravelly beach in Kent or Sussex.
Corporal Wossisname would have given the buggers a hard time wiv 'is bayonet, I can tell ya. They didn't call 'im Butcher for nuffingk, y'know.

Got birds decimating our Letaka fences. See spraying the fence with vinegar may help. Just been to pick some limes. At least 11 eaten by squirrels. A few more bullets may help there.
Sunset in 30 mins at just after 18.00 local. Lethal Weapon 4 on the to be watched list this evening.
Masisi Hooch with slices of fresh lime, ice and bitter lemon for sun-downers. The bastards will not get us down.
Hope everything is going OK Ibbie.

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread IV
The two bottom lines on the doctors note are I think
1 tab qid for 15 days
Meaning 1 tablet 4 times a day for 15 days.
As for the rest ?????
The first line is “Mrs Bodo” which is an Hungarian surname
Obviously a prescription for the woman. Is the Hungarian a link between the postcard and the Doctor’s note ?
