Just repaired 3 shed doors that had all dropped and wouldn't close. One cheap chunky, two British, they lacked cross braces. All fixed, cost £7.50.

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread IV
Two sheds, 3 doors. One is a super cheap chunky sentry box. Made of match wood. The strongest part is the mastic covered roof. Probably designed to last a year at best. It is now fastened securely to a fence so it doesn't blow away.
Last home I had a proper shed, made in Northern Ireland, 12x12 metal. It replaced a 5x8 bespoke wooden one. Between the wooden one being dismantled and the metal one being removed, our lawn mower went walk about.
It was valued at £950 and I had the insurance paper work in hand when the politzie recovered it, being walked down the Sleaford bypass. Shame at the insurers could have bought me a new one. At least it had been cleaned and serviced.

How to do reflooring without moving heavy cupboards full of stuff. Shift contents to balance. Get car jack. Jack up cupboard. Carefully! Reach under and remove leg (Ikea furniture legs screw in and out) slide and fit flooring under cupboard. Refit or screw out leg again. Remove car jack. Repeat on the other side! Only do one leg at a time. .... It actually worked this morning, new larder floor installed. Hint: don't try this when alone in the house.

I was duty officer one weekend, it might have been Christmas, and I went to do the flag waving at 1600. The orderly Sgt, who should have lowered the Ensign didn't turn up.Hint: don't try this when alone in the house.
His normal place of work was the engine test facility some miles off base and he had been there, alone, repairing his car. I prepared to send a search party, fearing the worst,. He eventually turned up, I can't remember his excuse.
Mrs PN always insists I don't do any serious DIY if she is out.

And you would have gotten the two doses of the vaccine with a minimum delay.

Funny thing is just today I was relating to a friend how May day is a strike day for transport workers in Greece and a good time to travel on a vessel leaving later than usual hence arriving at a better time.Ex-Ascot wrote: ↑Tue May 11, 2021 1:00 pmT15 or indeed anyone here. If you can stand 8 hours on a very nice ship we know the place. Great accommodation and fantastic grub. Mate's rates can be organised. Quiet and very traditional. Mike and Carmen said one of their best holidays ever. We are usually there mid April to mid July.

So sad to learn that Beale's is shutting up shop.
No visit to central London would be complete without a visit to that place. The smell alone is so evocative of a proper chandler. I always end(ed) up buying something quite unnecessary, just because it was there.

Now THAT is planning ahead.
Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread IV
Our local department store (established in 1818 by William Robb a lace trader from Fife and subsequently managed for the next 169 years in an unbroken father to son line for six generations) was taken over by Joplings ln 1987 then Owen Owen before ending up with Beales in 2010 during which time there were several last-minute closure threats before finally closing in February 2020.
At one stage Robbs represented 30% of the floorspace of the local town with 80,000 square feet of floor space and 300 staff.
The premises are currently partly occupied by 'clearance sale' traders.

Morning all,
Cracking the flags, 20˚ guess is 26˚ pretty calm.
Have to do the big blue store today.
After my second Phizer on Tuesday, yesterday I had a minor haddock, a sore throat and as the day progressed a massive fatigue.
Feel as normal as it gets today.
