Raining steadily here and misty.
Nothing quite like the warm glow provided by a cup of tea on a day like this.

Morning folks. Overcast but should clear up.

We have an American here who speaks Greek with an American accent. We are told that we speak Greek like pesants. Learning on a remote Greek island I suppose we do.

Morning folks.

Blue, presently 18c and heading upwards.

Went to quiz at the local last night and came third, winning €6.50 for our troubles.

Showers in London. The wholesale overnight thunderstorm destruction promised by several newspapers never happened. Not a single boom or flash. Another Viewing today so garden clean-up.

We had a French exchange girl with us. Spoke beautiful English. Her French wasn't very good.

Met the wife of a USAF WO, she too spoke very clearly with a US accent. Then admitted she was actually German. She said the German colonel's lady spoke coarse German.

Speaking a foreign language is not simple.

Morning all, heavy rain overnight, but due to clear this morning. MrsWoody due to leave CPT this evening, staff travel permitting.

One of our neighbours worked for a French company whose CEO was very proud of his English language skills, so we showed him Rab C Nesbitt =)) =))

When all else fails, read the instructions.

Now cleared up, blazing sunshine. Locals are saying hot. *****.

Saw a massive snake on our morning walk. Unique to this island, harmless.

Fish man just arrived at the pub. Lunch sorted out. Two frog bitches shouting at the owner. No idea what it was about all we copied was that he didn't want to hear about their problems.

When I speak German to Germans, they think I'm Dutch. Probably a compliment. Speaking French to French they know I'm English, terrible accent. But speaking Catalan to separatistas gets me free drinks !

Didn’t Ted Heath once make a speech in schoolboy ffrench that was apparently dreadful.

OFSO, the reason Germans think an Englishman speaking German is a Dutchman, is the certain knowledge that the English don't do foreign languages.

Used to happen to me as well.

Maybe you're a very sound sleeper, OFSO. Living a mere 25 miles or so from Charing Cross as the crow flies, I was awoken in the early hours by the sound of booms and heavy rain, complete with flashes.

However, the lost sleep was more than compensated for this morning, by reading online yesterday's hatchet job by the admirable Max Hastings, on Boris Johnson's total unfitness to be PM, based on every one of his character flaws. Seldom do I find myself so in agreement with every single word of an article, particularly when published in the former Manchester Guardian ... ^:)^

WRT rain/thunder, I was between Glasgow and Edinburgh yesterday and had occasional heavy showers.
Daughter was driving to/from Edinburgh (30 miles each way), and had to stop when the rain was so extreme that the wipers failed to permit her to see the road or other vehicles (and the road flooded with the additional spray from passing trucks).

Localised conditions . . .

In the past, I have experienced severe localised flooding from surface water (which ripped-up highway surfaces) due to a cloudburst when there was no rain ten miles away (I was seeking rainfall records to argue with the Water Company as to why their drains were surcharging).

We are in Islington, building dates from1860s, bedroom looks north into garden, double-glazed but had the window open. Other than the police search-and-destroy choppers circling overhead (as most nights), heard nothing !

A guy is walking around the village in clogs.I mean full size black solid wooden clogs not backless or with rubber soles. I thought a donkey was coming down the street. He is in black with long hair as is his wife. More nutters.

Just overheard final settlement for the wedding. We are talking a fortune. He owns a medical.practice in Finland. Don't go there and get sick on holiday, I think all the prices have just gone up.

He can't be a psychiatrist judging by who he has married but perhaps he considers her as a challenge.

France 24 reports supermarkets are being asked to clear space in their cold stores to keep cadavers resulting from the present heatwave. From my own experiences of French meat (no cow has ever been reported to die of CJD in France) I hope that the cadavers are clearly marked as such. Many if not all would be more highly rated for consumption than the pigs and cows alongside which they are stored.

MtMM was taken to the vet late last night, listless and in a lot of pain. Apparently he has either a kidney infection or maybe a back injury making it difficult to pee. Today's further tests along with the antibiotics and methadone bring the bill to about £900 and counting. Little bugga had better recover.
