Mrs 4ma reported on the electrical storms with associated wetness and thunder when she appeared this morning. Never heard a thing, I was out like a light.

Today will be mostly spent keeping in the shade and cool.

OK all you electrical engineers out there I have a question which our solar engineer (botanist) can't answer. Why with the genny running does the pool pump pull 650 W but when I switch to solar it pulls 1200 W. See the little kink when I turned off the genny at 09.15. I noticed this the other day and just ran it for 15 mins this morning to prove the point to our supplier. Is it something to do with a greater current on the genny? Only thing that I can think of but it doesn't make sense.

Glad I’m going to Spain tomorrow morning and not returning until the day that the pilots are due to go on strike :-bd

Could it be different cable sizes with a higher resistance on the solar feed - thinner cable, longer distance?

Slasher's picture looks like the Sonoran desert in Arizona to me. There is a ridge on the northern edge where the branched Saguaro cactuses all stop. It's a remarkable thing to see.
Meanwhile, the early sun has burnt off the morning mist, but now we have a dismal low cloud. Time to do boring things like ... drilling holes ;)))

Ex-Ascot Pool pump: The most efficient pumps are two or variable speed. I would imagine you have a two speed pump fitted for this reason. The lower power setting runs the pump at half speed, and so about half power. You should be able to check this is what you have by having someone listen to the pump as you turn the genny on and off, when the pitch of the sound should go lower and higher respectively. Normally, two speed pumps have 4 wires; ground, neutral, low power, high power. They would be wired to a timer switch which changes which power line is being supplied. I imagine that you have the genny output wired to the lower power wire and the solar output wired to the higher power wire, so the speed/power changes as the power source does. I would say this is the best way to do it, as it saves you a timer switch.
I would guess you have a 3/4 hp pump.

Generator 220, inverter 240. Anyway supplier has solved the problem. We think that there was a software update on 9th of this month and it changed the frequency of the inverter from 50 to 60 Hz. Our supplier has changed it back remotely. All OK now. I do not understand folk who do not have this remote monitoring system. We would never have known we had a problem or been able to have it fixed remotely. Thank you for your interest Wodders.

Edit. Also thank you PN. See above but do not know the answer to your question.

Edit. Thanks Fox but no our pump is only one speed. Can't have timers as it may come on when it is cloudy.

See below the frequency dropped to the genny frequency when i had it on briefly for analysis. I didn't notice that.

The inverter frequency change will make the pump run a lot less efficiently, as the pump design speed depends on the ac frequency.

Just thrown two yokels with a large truck off the urbanisation. It was too big for the roads and bends. The driver was also an incompetent.

It is I, all inclusive week near Salou, booked it ages ago, first time in 3 years that I’ve had any time off in the school holidays :D

It’s bloody hot here as well, but rain guessed at for weekend!

Missus om and I have just received our new passports, they don't have the European Union embossed on the front cover, we are on our way.

The Enfield had its first 300 mile service yesterday, valve clearences adjusted, oil changed, head stock bearings scrutinised, it is going well now, I have just cut straight across country to Dorchester across the Piddle valley, just using farm access tracks and c roads, it is absolutely great, I topped it up with some decent fuel (Shell) and it is raring to go.

The crops are dry and it is very dusty, we had some promising thunder and lighting last night, but it only spat with rain for a minute or so, it is very hot and muggy, doing some weeding at the allotment this afternoon.

Welcome Woody ! Thunderstorms here also at the weekend. Incidentally at any time of the week one of the following (or more) will be on strike in Spain:
Barcelona taxis
Garbage collectors
RENFE
Barcelona metro
University professors

Worth also mentioning that the leader of the Podemos party, Iglesias, started off his speech to the Parliament yesterday by saying "let us not forget the three women murdered in Spain last week".

And that there are standing demos outside kiddly-fiddling religious homes.

However the sluts for hire are back at the side of every main road, not that it's of interest to anyone here.

Why don't politicians ever go on strike?

It would be a massive improvement.

First run of new dishwasher. Thing has AI, decides how long to wash. Presumably has little eyes which look at every plate and dish. On ECO, three hours twenty ! Pulling my leg. Nothing was that bad. Next time will use Auto.

This was the sort of performance that our 'new' Bosch one had, and we decided to bin it.
