Morning all,
same as previously reported from the other side, clear as crystal again.

SM has engaged new gardeners - not convinced - she will see. They turned up and on time too.

Still netting pine needles out of pond.

The 1932 Morris Minor that I bought a half share of while I was at Lindholme 1956.

I was posted to Coningsby, and had to sell to a mutual friend!

I was lucky, I got my £15 back.

Had a '53 Minor. Split windscreen, proper "trafficators" (the little pop-out arms which signalled left or right). £30, rego LOT 145.

Our first family car was one of Britain's best designs (not). Standard 8
My Dad had one of those in the early 60's, never had any trouble with it. The dashboard lights used to go out when the clutch was pressed down for some reason.

My first transport was a DMW 197 motorbike which I bought for £12 in 1967.

Perhaps that's a typo, or even a memory blitz, DBx.

Are you sure it wasn't a German DKW 197 cc, standing for "Das Kleine Wunder" ("The Little Wonder")?

Das Kleine Wunder was a marketing slogan, the name of the firm DKW harks back to their origins, Dampf Kraft Wagen (Steam Powered Vehicles).

The original BSA Bantam 125 was a direct copy of a DKW motorcycle.

My first transport was a James 97cc motor bike, would only go if you pushed it off, went to school on it for a couple of years. Bought it for £6 and sold it for £6. First car was a 1956 Vauxhall Velox, bench seat and column change, a nice passion wagon. Changed to a Hillman Imp when i got married cos Mrs 1DC couldn't/wouldn't drive the Vauxhall. After 53 years nothing has changed, she can't/won't drive my XF!!

Gardeners will not be coming back. Why do people pretend to be experienced in a particular trade when clearly they are not.

You mean, like TM? ;)))
They hope to get clients less experienced than they are.

No it was definitely a DMW who were a manufacturer based n Wolverhampton. Not particularly well known, I never saw another one.

Completely confused with all the election meetings at the moment. We have the parochial ones, the island ones and the suit chaps going around for the European ones. Posters all over the place. Just been asked if we are going to the meeting this evening. No idea who the F it is for. Just ordered another raki. Not bloody going. Don't understand a bloody word anyway. We have a meeting on Wednesday with the Admiral and that is it. Not going to any other one. From.the little we understand it is all a complete load of *****. Also it is going to go to a second round absolutely no doubt. The fun of living on a remote Greek island. No hippos though.

Here you are.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DMW_Motorcycles

There are dealers who specialise in old bikes, one that I have bought and sold from is here http://gbmotorcycles.com/ great chap called Brian, he will source you a DMW if you wanted.

Had the flu for about a week now, missus om also, absolutely vile bug, trying to pretend I am ok but it keeps reminding me I am unwell, hope to resume normal vigour shortly.

Edited to add, there is one for sale near me at Sherborne at the moment

Heating on again this evening. Looks like rain again.

Pumped the pool into my holding tank to do some work. Went down three hours later to discover half the pumped water had sneaked back into the pool behind my back. Pumped it back into the tank again after spanking it's bottom, and this time REMOVED THE END OF THE HOSE FROM THE HOLDING TANK after turning the pump off. Silly sod.

They do in Manitoba - the Red River Floodway is the second largest artificial water course after the Panama Canal. However, no one from Saskatchewan would be seen dead working in Manitoba, and v.v. My Manitoba cousins refer to Saskatchewan as The Gap, i.e. the gap in civilisation between Manitoba and Alberta ;)))

I sympathise with you. The late Mrs R and I had 'flu over Christmas & Hogmanay in the late 1980s. It was complicated because we had two GSDs at the time so we took it in turns getting up, crawling downstairs, feeding the dogs & turning them out in the yard to empty then getting them back inside again before crawling back up to bed with Lemsips & dry toast. Although we had fridge & freezer packed full of Christmas/Hogmanay goodies we ate nothing but dry toast for almost a week!

Morris Minor convertible was the first ,the fabric on the roof was slightly loose so when reaching terminal velocity of 35MPH it made a noise sounding very much like someone standing on the roof beating it with a coal shovel. The Minor was traded in for a Porsche 356c pretty soon after a large rise in pay.Sadly it was sold for $3000 when marriage and a family came along forty five years ago. Recently when perusing Carsales I came across it for sale, only problem was it appears to have become a collectors
item as the asking price was $130,000 !!!!
