What I was looking for was different personal associations that evolved through your life.
For example, a particularly objectionable child at infant school had the same christian name as the girl that I married (many years later).
My interpretation of that name had to be changed.
In my first example, the word Woodbine started out as an inert name of a street, changed to a cheap cigarette and then morphed into an attractive woodland plant which is often domesticated. The true meaning never changed, just my perception of it,
