Hope they get the culprit Ex A and put him away. He certainly needs to be, having a tosser like that living nearby must be quite worrying..Sooner he is gone the better..

Sorry to hear of Ex-Ascot's woes. I'm very fortunate in that my car sits outside the house with the keys in the ignition whilst my garage and the front & back doors are have not been locked since we moved in in 2004 - I've no idea where the keys are. And although the house next to me is "The Old Police House", complete with cells, the last time it saw a policeman was about 40 years ago; it was in use in the early 20th century when the islands population was around 5,000 when the herring were running but nowadays the population is about 300 and the only time we see police on the island is when they come from mainland Orkney to check shotgun licences - and as soon as the police vehicle drives onto the ferry in Kirkwall the news will spread throughout our island thanks to the mobile phone and one or two elderly (and not-so-elderly) vehicles are discreetly parked until the island is police-free once more.

The flight over to Brisbane from Perth was an eye-opener. Nice and green in the West, parched and brown in NSW and Queensland.

From Tom Sharpe's excellent "Riotous Assembly"... "That the ground he chose was already occupied by a large doberman pinscher, and that the dog chose to dispute the right of Konstabel Els to lie prone on it, and that in any case all South African dogs are trained to bite persons of negro extraction, and that Konstabel Els was of sufficiently mixed blood to justify biting on suspicion...."

Sounds like a couple of large SA sourced Dobermans might be the answer, Mr. exA .

On the Paseo here there is a Danish Restaurant run by a married couple David and Brian.

They have a dog of mixed heritage, medium sized. He allows all to come and go without comment.
Lookie-Lookie persons he hates with a passion which knows no bounds. They don't get in.

Not exactly true.

When we lived in Joburg, at one time we had a big standard poodle.

We never trained him, but he barked whenever a NR walked down the street.
All the other dogs in the road did, and he simply picked it up!

Sorry to hear of your woes Ex A. Would a few Claymore mines be of any use?

About 10 years ago, the subdivision I lived in in the Philippines was being plagued by a gang of housebreakers who also did violence to the owners. Known to be armed.

I wasn't there at the time but a group of expats hah had quite enough and formed what you could call a vigilante group. When one of their number was absent, CCTV was installed in the house and the gang (4 or 5) was spotted breaking in. Calls were made and the gang duly ambushed. One escaped; the others were killed in the shoot out.

The local police turned up after a few hours and pronounced themselves content with the outcome. About half the vigilante group was ex Vietnam vet and one retired Royal Marine Sgt my have been, allegedly, involved. The mayor at the time was a certain R Duterte, now President.

Oh dear Ex-A. Hope they left your booze untouched....that would have been serious.

The restored lock on me canal has now been officially opened. The great and the good came to witness the event and there was a bit of a bun fight about who would be on the boat for the ..ahem.."first" passage in 90 years. Anyway, the ribbon was cut by the C&RT CEO and the Chairwoman from our local council. One was interviewed by the BBC - I don't think I made an @r$e of myself - might even be on BBC Look North/East Midlands Today.

Whilst I was operating the gate to allow the boat through, some 'erbert complained I was blocking the view for his supa-dupa, extra long lens camera. He was only about twenty feet from the boat, not taking pictures of the feckin moon....onanist!!

Ibbie and Wodrick please note - just received:

Summary – Spain’s meteorological office (AEMET) has issued an “extreme risk” weather warning for the regions of Valencia, Alicante, Murcia, Almeria and Balearic Islands due to torrential rain; flash floods are causing road closures and serious disruption to transport services; if you are in these areas you should exercise extreme caution and follow the advice of the local authorities

Everyone wearing lifejackets on a canal boat, even on the lock gates, looks completely ridiculous.
Are you sure they should have been trusted with scissors? ;)))

Fox, you've never had to work with C&RT have you? H&S obsessive is an understatement and today they went overboard (pardon the pun) with safety briefings, barriers, risk assessments, hi-vis, safety boots, etc - even the scissors came under scrutiny.

We don't ask our normal passengers to wear LJs - this lot must think they're worth saving if the boat sinks.

Given the accuracy of the Spanish weather forecast I wouldn't be too sure. BTW I can see snow on the mountains as I write this...

How wrong could one be? =))

Mind you, they are probably well aware that no one would lift a finger to haul them out, including their own "colleagues" :ymdevil:

Jet2 Glasgow to Palma flight diverted to Malaga this morning due weather. AGP was nearest available divert open at the time.

Still no rain here.

You sure you weren't there Fox? A couple of the C&RT guys said almost exactly that.

The white-haired bloke with his back to the lock wall is the head honcho of the Heritage Lottery Fund and he's the one who give the thumbs-up to money for projects like ours - so definitely worth saving.
