I had popped over to Pershore to practice a few rollers one day and unfortunately had a bird strike on short final. I landed the aircraft and went for a cup of coffee in the pilot lounge while it was being inspected..

Pershore in those days was the Royal Radar Establishment and its odd fleet of trials aircraft were flown by a group of senior, in the age sense not rank sense, pilots. The usually chit-chat was going on in the lounge until there was a sudden, unmistakable, sound of Merlins. The lounge emptied so fast you would not believe it.

There, making low flypasts down the runway, was the BAE Mosquito. Some of these older pilots had probably flown them on active service. There were many quite open and understood tears.

.
the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible.

Boing, I got one, I thought it was RR but it could have been BAE. They were returning to UK from Switzerland and we persuaded them to do our air show too.

Free fuel, free beer, free party, too good to miss. I have never seen such a happy, tired and emotional crew. The aircrew tent both through 10 barrels in the afternoon and then the party. We had no trouble getting offers to come the following year.

On the beach at 5am pumping a supply of blackworm. A saving of £45 on tackle shop prices.

The usual canal walk this morning. Sun very hot, so much so that a couple of times I sat on a bench in the shade and enjoyed the view.

Also returned with three plants for garden...a red/purple fuchia and two other plants with many small flowers. All now planted in pots and watered in.

Immediately from Boys training I was posted to BCBS Lindholme where for 2 1/2 years I not only lived with the noise of RR Merlin's, but for a lot of my time I worked on the a/c fitted with them.

It was only many years later that I realised how lucky I'd been.

Having done the usual Monday house clean, followed by coffee, I went out to the greenhouse just to open the door and windows. I returned to the house about 45 minutes later having opened said door and windows, dead-headed a rose or two, staked another one, removed some grass growing in the patio and sneaked, and potted up, a few cuttings from my neighbour's climbing geranium that grows over my side of the fence. As the plant is on the north-facing side of his fence, it seems to quite like coming over my side to get the sun. It also forms a good umbrella over my waste bins. o:-)

We have a visitor too, a beautiful Clematis from next door that is pally with our climbing rose. Our neighbours, no gardeners, offered to cut it back.

Shopping trip to Tesco's complete. A bit busy today, had to stand outside in a queue for a bit before being allowed in. The weather's nice so it wasn't an imposition.

Sad news is that our black lodger, Usher, the black spaniel, has had to be put down with cancer.

She had stopped eating and drinking. Large tumour in her mouth.
