UP is more Untangled Pendulum than plumbob it seems!

John Harrison would approve I am sure!

Not altogether pointless this one. Anyone in these hallowed halls able to point me to the right place to look for the citation for a DFM? I think I know what it was for but my confidence in my knowedge has been recently undermined and I'd like to fnd the real answer. Ta.

That's not the Hydrographer's one.

That one was made in Dysart, Fife.

I'm proud of that one because I did all of the work myself without any help. It's a more complicated mechanism as it also has a calendar function. I had to hand-make several missing/broken components and had to guess/reverse-engineer the shape one of the more complicated bits.

It's not for sale.

I would love to, but that I have to ask what a DFM is probably does not instill confidence!

A fine day over this side, cloudless but still quite cool just 20˚
Guess this side 26˚

Not getting any water to fill the deposit off to investigate.

A fairly normal Sunday to follow

Low water pressure here also. Must be coincidence. Makes it hard to wash mud off the white car. We have rain from Afriky.

There's a wee bendy bit (I'll not use technical jargon here) which you need to ever so slightly bend sideways to get the time period between the tick and the tock to match.
I think that this is the 'wee bendy bit' to which UP was referring as described on a piece of paper given to me by the father of a colleague who repaired clocks as a hobby. Sorry that it is not very legible,it's a (copy of a copy)n that has been lurking in my filing system for over 30 years, which shows, if nothing else, that said filing system works.

I have a long case clock of indeterminate age - I guess about 100 years - inherited from my grandparents which has had several repairers confused. One of them said 'it's like Morecambe and Wise's sketch with Andre Previn; all the bits are there but not where I would expect to find them, but it works very well'. I suspect that it was made as an apprentice piece, with the case and face bought in and everything else made from scratch. Instead of the bendy bit there's an inverted stirrup-shaped piece at the top of the pendulum with a threaded rod across the top so to get the beat even you rotate the rod in the appropriate direction.

Hmm, I have a clock that in comparison is probably worth nothing, but worth a great deal to me in sentimental value.

I fixed it once in the late 1990's, and I think had it fixed again once. The problem I think is if it ever tilts to horizontal, as in moves etc.

If it had a cabinet around it....I guess you would call it a 'Long case', but is does not.....2 weights, chains and a pendulum, I was never allowed to touch as a child and it belonged to my Grandparents and is stamped 'Made in West Germany'

It has been sitting in a spare room for sometime now....I need someone to repair it....but I'm afraid of the cost.

It was my Grandparents, and something I remember well from my childhood, at some point (30+ years ago) it stopped chiming the correct hours, it would chime on the hour & half hour...but the hour chime, would then chime the number of hours.....and no one here (at least at the time) knew how to rectify that....

It
Surely, if it was made in 'West Germany', it is post 1945?

What is it with the US and matters Danish? Didn't Trump float some idea to buy Greenland not too long ago? I think we should send Sandi Toksvig over to sort them out!

The Danes are multiple positions ahead of the US on the civilisation scale and probably higher on the evolutionary scale as well. :)

Mate, even without that Bimbos display of utter ignorance and stupidity.....I understand WHY it is so hard to become a citizen of Danmark,....sure beats being a citizen of the US, and of OZ so much smarter, so much back to the taxpayer..our taxes go to countries that hate us rather than taxpayers who created that wealth....and yet Oz unlike Danmark do not know how to take care of their citizens....I don't mind paying taxes...I mind my taxes being squandered....the Australian Government squander with reckless abandon the taxes they receive......and it matters not which 'side' is in....they are both very very similar,....but people find it necessary to identify with one side or another....and both sides know they need do anything 'cos...LIBS are always correct OR LNP always correct...never mind the big end of town manipulates it with spin to suit the day!

Try the Gazette. Some however are pretty terse eg 'for services on operations'.
