I guess that, being Chermanns they reckon that they will be understood 'back home' rather than misunderstood due to language differences.

All the Krauts around me, of which there are many, go to see a private doctor from the fatherland at the hint of trouble. He seems ineffective and is massively expensive.

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread IV
44C here today, the first good blast of heat in around a month. It has been quite mild lately, considering the somewhat ferocious time we had back in early December when the thermometer on the Waikerie Town Hall allegedly touched 55C on one day. The only time I saw it on that day it was reading 52C.
Tomorrow supposed to be 44C. We shall see.
Well....it is Summer!

Not quite that warm here, +3C (feels like -3C).
If we're lucky it will get up to 6C during the day.
Lovely day though so no complaints from me.
I am currently trying to sort out the chaos that is laughingly called a garage.
Materials and stuff from projects going back years being trawled through and despatched to the bins
when I can think of no earthly reason why I would ever need them again.

Hey Pinky me ol’ China!
44C?
Bloody latte-sipping poofters wx mate.
Here’s real heat! 🥵
This was taken while we were in the van going to the town pub to wait till after sunset when it cooled down. The A320 is T/O limited to ISA+40 (55C). We were meant to be just in and out of the place like a honeymooner’s dick. A one-off charter. 50C when we landed.
Wasn’t expecting it to get that hot, but seriously man you really have to be careful in temps like that. Flight of the Phoenix sh!t. Hottest I’ve ever experienced first hand. Before that it was 54C in Kuwait with a stampeding Northerly.

In Oman all official thermometers peg at 49.4°C.
This is because at 50° all outdoor workers are given the day off by Law. To avoid the huge cost to the economy they simply say that the temperature is only 49°.
I remember trying to do some rounds of angles with a geodetic theodolite when the temperature was up there. There were pistol-like cracks all around my mountain top position. It was rocks cracking in the heat. You had to wear rope-soled footwear as rubber compound soles melted to mush.
When using a Tellurometer to accurately measure distances we had to measure the temperature at each end of the raypath and at the middle (Simpson's Rule: 4x the middle plus the ends, all divided by 6) to calculate the refraction co-efficient. Temperatures of 60° or more were a pain because our tables only went to 40° so we had to calculate from first principles.
I soon learned to drink only warm water. When you were heavily over-heated the drinking of ice-cold liquids did something odd to the carotid artery by constricting it to the point that you would momentarily pass out.

Yes we were taught similar in Initial SEP upon joining my old mob Plum. Although if one’s aircraft ends banged up out in the desert in 60C+ it might be a tad difficult obtaining iced water from the galley fridge lying strewn all over the sand.
Shade is extremely important and that, without it, nicking a dead local pax’s tea towel and fan belt (if available) was a good tip.

Heard of this, I believe a warrant officer, after going from the heat into the mess downed a cold beer. I think his heart stopped. I think he recovered though.I soon learned to drink only warm water. I went totally 'bush' very quickly. Those clothes are extremely practical, having evolved over centuries in that environment. Two out of my four battmen did the same.
I still have my shemagh and use it in both hot and cold weather in Scotland. An immensely practical and useful thing.

UP
Seconded on the practicality of the gutrah, I used to use mine until it became the badge of every wannabe special forces poser in the US and then I was too embarrassed.
When I first used it in ME I thought the locals would find it funny but their reaction was usually that a foreigner was doing something sensible for a change.
I was presented mine by a minor member of the Kuwaiti royal family so the agal has the two long pony-tails with tassels which get in the way somewhat.

Ok Slasher me old; T'is 1650hrs CSuT here in Waikerie South Oz and the temperature outside is now 48C, down from the high of 49C.
Clear skies with no cloud as far as I could see in my brief walk-around. Unsure of forecast for tomorrow but possibly even a bit warmer for a bit before a change arrives late in the afternoon. Talk of some rain for the State, with possible falls of up to 80mm in some places.
Rain??? Bring it on!!!!

Clear skies in Iberia north, also. Barcelona suspended the Chinese New Year celebrations. That will help stop the spread of the Virus I'm sure.

Pinky, that must be the weather that is heading my way and promised for Saturday. Be nice if it could go by Melbourne and cool down a wee touch before making it's way to Sinney. On second thought it may be best if it misses Melbourne because if it came by there you would not know what the bloody hell you would get,Hot Cold Wet Windy take your pick.

Another trip to Kirkwall today, the second this week. This time I'm flying via Loganair's Britten-Norman Islander. ETD 08:57 ETA 09:06. Time for a quick meal at the airport before catching the bus down to Balfour hospital. Back to Stronsay in the afternoon ETD 15:10 ETA 15:19. Cost of return flight is a reasonable £19.

Morning folks.
Another blue day outside, despite them who guess having predicted cloudy.
Mrs IB is a little better today.
Trying to catch up on things not done in last week whilst being hospital taxi.

How old it that BN? Is it a twin? Getting on for 50 I guess.
Funny how a particular type of aircraft is suddenly developed such as BN or Skyvan and then the industry moves on much as fashion does.

Morning all,
As reported, quite mild 17c currently.
A trip to Ma Lager city calls for a visit to Traffico again, I am dreading it.
The whole, I hate driving in AGP, parking is a nightmare, Traffico is a paperwork nightmare etc.
Off for a shower ...........
