Mrs 1DC gets her own way on most things but she knows that she hasn't a snowballs chance of getting me in an IKEA ever again, I went once and thought it was a horrible place selling mostly junk(in my opinion)..

My wife won't get me into an Ikea, despite promises of Swedish meatballs, vodka, views of runways, etc. Since the appearance of Tuna Snotberg, even promises of Svenska flickor would be of no avail, I've never liked Swedish women anyway, too feminist and abrasive.

Morning suit/dress is a tailed coat only worn in the morning or until the end of the event such as Royal Ascot or a wedding. I have mine here in case the President invites me for breakfast. It is worn with highly polished shoes without pom poms on them. Sorry mate but what is the tradition they look so stupid.

About a month ago, Señora Larss announced that we would be attending a charity dinner and ball in aid of Help for Heroes. This event being tomorrow evening.

It is nearly 20 years since I've worn a tie and there was no chance that my old kit would fit. Alas, retirement and a love of cooking have reduced the six pack of 10 years ago to more of a beer barrel.

Checked the rental places: crap quality and bloody expensive.

Told Señora Larss that I would 'pick up something' at a charity shop.

So, today spent cruising the local charity shops. Success:

New DJ. Fits perfectly. M&S. £5.00
Trousers: No label but good quality with that silk strip on the seams. Too long but altered in 30 minutes by Señora Larss. £2.00.

Dress shirt. New. £3.00

Cufflinks. 9 ct gold. £25.00

Nice self tie dickie bow. £1.00. "Do you know how to tie it, sir?" Demonstrated without the aid of a mirror. Muscle memory or something.

There are some real bargains in those places.

Hit a pothole tonight, and wrote off one of my very new tyres!

It might have done 30km.

I quite fancy my prospects now, given the number of potholes round here.

You should have bought the set of 5 - remember when cars had a spare wheel on the back (or on the side before that)?
and you were expected to 'rotate' the wheels and tyres:-

I have a full size spare, in reasonable condition.

My car is fitted with tyres that have to be fitted to the rims, in a manner so that they rotate in the correct direction.
Tyres fitted for the RH side of the car cannot be put on the LH side of the car.

So the old fashioned rotation discipline doesn't apply.

I was caught out by that at an MOT - I had bought a set of wheels and tyres and hadn't realised that they were unidirectional . . .

There are cars round here where the mechanic clearly does the MoT and the tire rotation at the same time.

Wise bear, Rainer Ale, in a green can, was the one I always bought when flying to the USA West Coast, think it came from Seattle? but haven't found it for many a recent year, seem to remember something about the recipe being changed and losing popularity as a result, so they returned to the original but it then seemed to disappear. Maybe "Rainer Beer" is a successor. Don't know that one.

Mine too. Visiting - unwillingly - all these type of stores, and "Souvenir Shops" at museums and significant public buildings, one is amazed at the amount of crap that the World has produced. My first question upon entering is " where's the bored husband seat and what is your WiFi password ? ( assuming that I might have my iPad with me )

RiS, the tyres on my car go round and round, normally in synchronism.

You don't rotate tyres any more. They stay where they are. Apart from anything else, equalising wear means getting a bill for replacing four tyres at a time. On my car the fronts need changing at 55k. The rears last well over 100k....

Fair meal last night, the owner and his brother the chef are in Nepal for their annual visit.

Still have the gold pair that I was given for my 21st Birthday ( somewhere ) but when last need - some 30 years ago - I preferred to use the pair presented to me by a Rolls Royce rep. invited to the flight deck one day - large R.R. logo. It’s like being told you’re going to arrive in Cairo, and you’ll stay there and like it.

I haven't been to HKG, by choice, but I think CAI is the **** hellhole I never want to go back to, and the Gippos the vilest people I never want to have any dealings with.
