Morning all. Hauled myself out for my Tuesday morning run, despite it being 0 degrees here. I'm supposed to be off to London early tomorrow morning, but snow is also forecast here; we'll see.

Morning all,
Same 12c.
Nice work Ali, all functioning aqui.
*OFSO* is not really in Spain is he, Catalonia is not the same thing.
We have no complaints about the Health Service in Andalucia, SM was at the GP yesterday and sent for tests, one could have been today but it was declined so she goes tomorrow, and the other is next Monday, seems OK to me.
I find, overall, Spain cheaper than the UK. I have no desire to return but if we did I seriously doubt we could afford it, certainly not to live in the way we do here.
I'm feeling pretty rough today, just exhausted I think, didn't get to bed yesterday until 0345, dogs out not coming in, and a lousy night's sleep laast night with indigestion.
Nap after routine chores methinks.

On Sunday afternoon about 1730 we were enjoying a nice cup of tea when there was a huge explosion and the whole house shook for 4-5 seconds, I ran outside where all the neighbours were looking equally puzzled, all the houses were still there so it wasn't the gas explosion that some supposed, after a while we all drifted back indoors none the wiser. On the late BBC local news all became clear, a fisherman had dragged up a WWII parachute mine which the RN had blown up off Berry Head, we live a couple of miles further along the bay but only 160 metres from the cliff top.

OK done the official bash. Escorted to the VIP tent as usual. The master of ceremonies then has to introduce every VIP of which there are many (photo). You have to stand up when you name is called and wave. For God's sake. One waved one's Panama. Then the Chief stood up and made a speech and mentioned us again. Absolutely no idea what he said about us probably feel free to rob these racist white bastards whenever you wish. The poor people were in a tent opposite behind a fence to keep us VIPs safe.. The really poor people were in the sun on the side. Sat through goodness knows how many speeches and singing and dancing. After two hours I demanded that we left. Apparently it was only one hour. What the stuff, we were seen to be there. Only whites in the shop. Had a woman sitting in front of me with a shopping bag on her head (photo). Not a beer in sight.
The Botswana main TV channel was there and scanned the whole of the VIP tent. I am the one asleep (without a beer) back left if anyone has access to it.

Visit to optician this morning, routine except that the young lady who did the measurements and alignment of the frames was somewhat, whilst not quite of Slasheresque proportions, nicely endowed, and was wearing a thin white top which was quite low cut. What was most disconcerting was that she was holding her finger up in front of me and kept saying 'look at my finger'. Still I suppose if she'd asked me to look at her knockers it would have taken some of the fun out of it. I may have to go back next week just to check that they (the frames, not the boobs) are properly aligned!

The beret under the epaulette is a bit gash, must be avionics. The old dear in front of you looks like someone has emptied a waste paper bin on her head.

Actually he is prison service, is it the same? Admin may have something to say about this.
By the pool duties done pre-lunch scotch.
That bash could go on for hours. And, no booze, not even water or food. We have seen this before. Unbelievable.

Agree, Wodrick. We have been aware for many years that we live in the most expensive part of Spain. Restaurant meals in the far south are half the price we pay. Likewise fruit and veg and just about everything. Reason is the locals soak the French who are half an hours drive away and who come down because France is even expensiver. Concerning the UK, Islington London is cheap because of competition. Tesco, Waitrose, Sainsbury and M&S side by side with smaller bakers, fish and meat shops. But taxation and utility bills in Spain are horrendous....Waiting lists for medical treatment in Girona and Figueras the same as UK. Collapse of medical system in Catalunia in the flu season worse than in UK with hospitals and clinics pleading with sick to stay at home and not bother them.

Same here sah whenever me and Apsara have attended a Council meeting in town. Most speak English but for the sake of those who don't Thai is spoken. A while back after I said my piece the panel responded in Thai while politely pointing at me and then everyone clapped and cheered. If it wasn't for me wife translating for me afterwards I swear they we saying things like they're planning to shut out tall bloody farang (foreigners) like me to keep their big Western dongs out of their women or something.
One time a woman councilor took the mike and asked a question directly to Ap. For all I knew she was probaably being asked what it's like to shag an Aussie. She smiled a bit...and answered... then everybody present started laughing their frigging heads off which made me think that's what it was about!

I was of course joking. Here we are in the middle of the bush in Africa and he managed to get most of my complicated title and name correct. He is a very good guy and I have no idea what his name is I just call him 'Chief'.Slasher wrote: ↑Tue Jan 22, 2019 12:39 pmSame here sah whenever me and Apsara have attended a Council meeting in town. OK to put the record straight I have just got out his latest letter to us he is: Chief Kgosi Oatleng Setlhodi. So as I say just 'Chief' is easier.
We are on hugging terms now. You S.A's will appreciate the significance.

Kgosi is the title for a hereditary leader of a Batswana tribe.

'er indoors is sitting on the other side of the pool feeding me beers but posting without permission. At least she is not introduced as 'bird', 'bonk', 'little tits', or just 'er indoors.
CPTN interesting, I will ask him.

Here on the River Humber the weather today has been very good, no frost, ice or snow and bright sunshine all day. Mrs 1DC and I took a trip out into the wilds of Lincolnshire to a little farm shop to have lunch and buy some decent meat, marmalade etc. A drive back through the Wolds was a pleasure, very clear and every now and then views over the Humber and North Sea. Not very often we get it like this especially when the Yorkies are getting snowed up at the same time..

Merkel and Macron have taken the first steps to forming a Euro Army (BBC today). Should ensure the white flags are made to a much higher standard.

Better half is driving back home from nearby Northholt. Heavy snow, although not a flake back here at base?
I wonder if the powers that be thought it essential to grit the M25 today?
She has moved five miles in the last hour.
