G'day,

Very wet earlier, we were in cloud until 11.30 then it lifted and gradually the rain ceased, just blue with some high cloud now.

Still only 15c though.

Yesterday was eye surgeon day and, while SM can be zapped with some of *Nigel's* gear he suggested glasses in the short term for driving and TV.
SM weighing the cost.

You remind me I need an appointment for an ITV on yon Toyota.

Still b hot in London at 2pm but sky menacing. Expecting rain, I went out looking at flats with an anorak on. Mistake. No chewing gum horror today, though.

Bloody freezing here. Can't get warm. If we could get into the house we could get a blazing fire going. Will go and get some oil tomorrow and try to force the doors open on Thursday. Do not want to be stuck at the hotel over Paska this weekend. Far too busy and noisy. Will be expected to attend family lunch on Sunday though. Lots of folk arriving for the celebrations. More hugging and kissing.

Another absolute downpour just passed through.

This shows more to come, but milder tomorrow.

Why is Greek Easter on different dates?
The dates are often different because they are based on the old Julian calendar.
Although most of the world now follows the Gregorian calendar, the Eastern Orthodox Church still uses the earlier Julian calendar for calculating the dates of festivals such as Easter that are not fixed.
Which begs the question:- "Why does the date of Easter vary?"
In 325 CE, the Council of Nicaea established that Easter would be held on the first Sunday after the first Full Moon occurring on or after the vernal equinox.
In 2019, for example, the March equinox in the Western Hemisphere happened on Wednesday, March 20, while the first Full Moon in spring was on Thursday, March 21 in many time zones. If the church followed the timing of these astronomical events, Easter would have been celebrated on March 24, the Sunday after the Full Moon on March 21.
However, the Full Moon date in March specified by the church's lunar calendar, also called the ecclesiastical Full Moon, was March 20, 2019β€”one day before the ecclesiastical date of the March equinox, March 21. For that reason, the Easter date 2019 is based on the next ecclesiastical Full Moon, which is on April 18. This is why Easter 2019 was on April 21.

You've gotta laugh at this one.
Plans to create a retail unit in a supermarket car park on Clarence Road in Hartlepool have been rejected.

Last year the proposals from Morrisons to create a Timpson's store in its car park were rejected by the council because they said it "would have a detrimental impact on the general character of the area".
The German Navy tried to improve the place in 1914 but their impacts failed to change the general character of the area.

What is "CE" ? Something stupid invented by idiots afraid to offend Muslims by mentioning Anno Dominae ?

Had a problem with the outer door sticking on the London flat after being unoccupied and rainy weather. Undid the lower hinge from the style, looked for a suitable shim, ripped the leather Levi label off the back of my jeans, folded it in half, stuffed it into the hinge recess and screwed the hinge back into the recess. Door outer edge now one, maybe two mm over the floor. Sorted.

OFSO!! CE can be something that has EU approval and is supposed to be a "good thing". It's usually on stickers on electronic kit.
BCE on the other hand is "before common era" ie BC and the common era is what you and I would call AD. No religious connotations are allowed!! Strengt verboten!

That is why carpenters smoked and why cigarettes came in thin card packs. Always used to find door hinges packed with fag packets.

An IBM 80 column cards served many a similar purpose, they were 7.5 thousandths of an inch thick.

I put fertiliser on the lawn tonight in anticipation of forecast rain to wash it all in. That will ensure a dry few days to come and I'll have to get out the lawn sprinkler.

I usually go straight to watering the plants when rain is forecasted.

Morning folks, cold and windy. This means that no one at the hotel wants to dine outside and they are full. Have already reserved our table for tonight in a little corner away from the peasants. Did our morning walk in record time today. I think we are now ready to tackle the walk home tomorrow. Just bought the WD40 to try to get the doors open.

Breakfast beer down in the port.
