Isle - walkway between seat columns on a small land mass.
Re: Last two letters start the next word v2.
Learned - having gained a lot of knowledge by studying. If I had my way, all university students on vocational courses which benefit society would be exempt from tuition fees, and would qualify for maintenance grants (i.e. nurses, engineers, teachers, etc). Non-vocational self-indulgent courses (like "art history", "media studies", etc) would have to be paid for by the students, since they're little better than "hobby" subjects, of benefit to no-one except themselves. End of horrendous debts for those of real value to society. My impossible dream ...

EDUCATION should be paid back as 603DX says but of course enforcing it would invoke howls of protest from Guardian reading Social Sciences students and other parasitic lefties.

Onto the stage, the place where Noel Coward warned Mrs Worthington not to put her daughter, in a wittily crafted comic song. A typical composition by the man who also wrote "Mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun".

English - a specie that guzzles sump oil but abhors a tasty topping to one's toast.
Re: Last two letters start the next word v2.
Shibboleth - a long standing belief that both Vegemite and Marmite are sump oil dregs, often held by those who can't stand either. In fact, they're the residue of brewing beer, so there's something to be said for both of them ...
Re: Last two letters start the next word v2.
Thesis - something I'll write up for my PhD regarding the drinking of 1952 Vauxhall sump oil and its complete utter non-relationship with a highly popular tasty yeast extract from Oz which is spread on one's toast.

Re: Last two letters start the next word v2.
Stipple - to mark a surface with many small dots, a technique developed by the artist Georges Seurat, and called Pointillism. We had an inspirational art teacher in my distant schooldays, who not only displayed his artistic tendencies by wearing coloured bow ties, he also enthused about Seurat's works to us. Must have rubbed off a bit on me, because during the day in London with family to celebrate my birthday recently, we met up in the National Gallery before lunch, and to my pleasant surprise I came upon probably Seurat's best known masterpiece, "Bathers at Asnieres". And I saw instantly what that teacher was on about 65 years ago ...
