Telegram - a message transmitted electronically with a printed version delivered by hand. When was the last of these sent, I wonder? Now old-fashioned and outmoded technology, followed by faxes.

Tenerife - the only one of the Canary Islands that I've visited. Massive volcanic cone (Mount Teide) with a network of poorly signposted roads on it, which I got lost on at night in a hire car. Los Rodeos airport, now renamed, was the scene of that ghastly accident with two 747s.

Olduvai Gorge in Tanzania, scene of much paleoanthropological activity by the Leakeys and others, after discovery of ancient fossil bones with apparent signs of tools use by early hominins, and animal chewing marks. Controversy over which came first, and whether the tool-users were hunters or scavengers around 1.9 million years ago, is still going on ... /:)

Hyperloop - the bright wheeze of entrepreneur Elon Musk. Persuade people to enter sealed pods inside vacuum tubes, travelling in a very low friction environment at high speeds approaching Mach one. Easy-peasy, all you need is oodles and oodles of cash and a gullible public devoid of any vestige of enjoyment of the experience of travel itself. Whoopee!! 8-}

Once upon a time.

How can a single occurrence be "upon" a time? Wouldn't "Once in the past" make more sense? 🤔
