Dome - a rounded kind of roof. The "Millennium Dome" built by muddling politicians at vast public expense to "celebrate" the new year in 2000 wasn't actually a dome at all, just a big circus tent for the same crowd of clowns to play in. Now it's just another venue for noisy pop concerts, which seems appropriate.

Shale - a soft rock formed from compressed mud or clay, often in near-horizontal layers. That collapsed cliff in Torquay shown in the Coastal Erosion thread looks very much like shale; if I lived in the "luxury" flats nearby, I'd keep a suitcase packed as a contingency measure ...
