Time to start a new one here as well. When they get too big suspect they slow the site down - database access gets iffy.

Earnest - a very serious adjective, which inspired Oscar Wilde to stress the importance of being it, and to create the haughty Lady Bracknell character with her horror of handbags! Thus enabling Dame Edith Evans to ham it up shamelessly at every performance ... ;)))

Lemonade - what you should make if you have lemons. Deep philosophical saying. What should you make if you have bananas?

That would probably lead to her Banoffi Pie recipe, for starters (no, I mean desserts)! :D

Atticus Finch was the lawyer in To Kill A Mockingbird, though I didn't see any mockingbird killed or even slightly injured in the book or movie.

Surely, there was an avian connection, with the Mockingbird film's star called Gregory PECK, who chirruped his way to an Oscar for his role?

(And I know, "Don't call you Shirley" ...) :)

Languor - a pleasant feeling of being tired or without energy. At least, that's what the dictionary says, but I would take issue with the "pleasant", after too many hot and humid days without air conditioning. I do actually have a simple "desert cooler" device which cools the fanned air by the latent heat of evaporation as it passes through a slow-moving porous belt passing through a tray of water. It works, but frankly I can't be bothered to heave it downstairs from the guest bedroom, owing to my present languid state. #:-S

(Dunno what made it all come out bold, but only the "Languor" counts, next two letters being OR.)

Tenable - able to be held for a stated period. Like the post of Prime Minister of Pakistan, which I understand that Imran Khan is about to take on, as the 19th since partition in 1947. Looking back at their political and survival record, I wish him the very best of luck - he will need it.
