Anathema, as in what was ALL of London to me 25+ years ago....'Spose I wouldn't mind a visit now...but it was hard living in a pub as a young Oz kid on such incredibly awfully low wages living onsite...worse was the dreadful ( & unnecessary abuse from the English folk!)

itu - international telecommunication union. Which if you have heard of them automatically tells anyone in the know that you are a ham radio operator. The ITU allocates the radio frequency spectrum, among other duties. Founded in 1865, back when they only did telegraphs.

Edifice - a large, impressive building. I think that's what most modern architects believe they're creating. The reality is often a grossly oversized effigy to Mammon, paying no regard to the surroundings both visually and environmentally. I had contact with architects during the uni training days, then frequently in collaborative projects over several decades. The commercially successful practices perform slavishly to their client's outlandish demands, abandoning classical standards and the effects of the monstrosity on the community.

The results are painful to see, like the "Shard", the "Mobile Phone" *, amongst many, and now coming, the "Tulip". For once, I think Prince Charles' views are right. Just compare London's rag, tag, and bobtail mixture with those recent Paris scenes around Notre Dame, all of low-rise classic proportions ... lovely.

* That one's windows reflected the sun's rays and melted plastic components on parked cars ...
