Re: Rant of the Day v2.
Last home we had paper a delivered. The papers had the address and were bagged in the right sequence. It was a regular trip to the paper shop when papers were misdelivered or not at all - usually boys. Then a girl started and held the job down for over 2 years. She was so good we would give her a £10 for Christmas and when we left £20. She also got a good weekly pay.
Only think that worried me was was she doing her schooling properly.

I wouldn't worry too much, Pontius. My daughter did newspaper deliveries until a week before her final exams, and did extremely well.
She then had a gap year during which she worked full time for the newsagent. She claims that this was her major incentive for passing at Uni. It also made it easy for her to get a part time job while at uni, a job she kept until she graduated.

I started a paper round at age 13 then started doing 2 rounds on Sundays at age 15. Does one good academically. The best kids at first lessons were always the ones who had been up exercising since 7am*, and they were the same as the rest from 11am onwards. I suspect the attention to detail needed with good newspaper delivery gets the thinking cap on early too.

On me way back from me canal, feckin A52 blocked both ways again with a lorry what shed it's tyres after hitting some bell bollards installed by Lincs County Council on a tight turn before going under one of the most hit railway bridges in the UK - third time this ...kin week!! The truck had stopped a couple of hundred yards past the bridge on inclined bends with double white lines. Then, having got past the first lorry, I got held up at the railway bridge because some trucker decided to take his 4.4m tall lorry under the 4.3m bridge. Can't these truckers read??

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
Started my paper round when i was 13, used to take 106 papers in the morning and 104 at night, on thursday mornings which was magazine and radio times day had to go back to the shop twice to fill the bag because of the quantity. The paper shop was run by two brothers who were very strict, we had to be at the shop at 0530 in the morning to sort our own papers and they expected every paper to have been delivered no later than 0730. On saturdays we had to take the local evening paper first and then back to the shop to get the sports edition and take that, they wouldn't let us wait for the football edition and take both together. The wages were 9 shillings a week and their was a waiting list for the job. After two years i got a new job taking 22 in the morning and 24 at night, it paid thirteen shillings and six pence but entailed a five mile bike ride through the countryside.

Oi! My brother drove trucks. Not all of them hit bridges.
Elephants eat buns, you eat buns, therefore you are an elephant.
I recall my paper round employer operated out of a lock-up garage. He had specialist paper sorters and specialist deliverers, as he'd discovered people tended to be good at one or the other.

On a cruise we were on a table with a trucker. Very interesting and very informative. In many ways they are as competent as airline pilots. They need medical and tests too. How many pilots can reverse onto a stand without marshallers?

Looking for travel insurance for a trip to Oz followed by a cruise from Oz to Singapore. Prices are pretty good until i put my pre medical conditions in then the quote triples. The Post Office are the biggest jokers £42515 for 62 days away. I wonder how many of those they sell?
Sister finally died yesterday, she beat the dementia but succumbed to an aggressive liver cancer, three weeks from diagnose to finish. I told her yesterday that it was the 75th commemoration of Arnhem Day and wonder if that decided her that it was time. Her late husband was in the Airborne and was captured on the Bridge, he always said he was lucky he was captured by the Wehrmacht and went to a prison camp some of his mates were captured by the ss and shot.

Why do folk wear ties of incorrect length. Just seen that labour prat with one down to his knees and that President over the pond is always wearing one too long. The PM is just as bad. Tip at the middle of the belt buckle is the etiquette. I tie mine about 3 times to get it right. Peasants the lot of them.

1DC: condolences from us both. Good news: "she beat the dementia." The foulest scourge known to mankind. Once again, we are sorry for your loss.

Apart from the ones you mentioned the other is Tony Bliar. They all wear them over their alpha male status symbol, or perhaps in case they forget to zip up.
