Rant of the Day v2.
Re: Rant of the Day v2.
I use Hostpapa, relatively inexpensive and should be easy to transfer from your existing host.

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
I don't usually have a rant but sometimes I do see behaviour that really does tick me off.
Yesterday evening was lovely and cool enough to go on a long meander through the fields with Señora Larss and the Black Bitch. We came back via the local cricket club, diverting around it via a handy like. There was a group of about 7 or 8 girls sitting in a circle passing a bottle around. My thought was that I would probably have done the same thing at their age after a couple of months of lockdown.
This morning I was out again at 0530 and wandering past the cricket ground and could see some rubbish on it. Now I was getting pissed so went to take a look.
Those kids had not only left their junk behind, they had had their little party on that holy of holies the cricket square!
It's the end of civilization I tell you!

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
Many years ago I was the hon treasurer of a small Animal Welfare group which ran fund-raising events through the year and usually ended up with about £1,000 to distribute to various animal charities. When I took over the task I was told that the large animal welfare organisations such as the RSPCA were never given any donations because of the amount of expensive publicity material that had been sent in the past. The recipients of our annual donations were 2 or 3 small, local animal welfare charities, I always remember that one of them always sent a "thank you" letter which was hand-written on Basildon Bond notepaper; the other "thank you" letters were more formal but similar in style.Capetonian wrote: ↑Fri May 29, 2020 1:10 pmYou might not be, nor would I, but remember the youngsters have to have the latest of everything, usually on credit or financed by the bank of Mum and Dad.Having just bought one, the last thing we are in the market for is a new one!
Charities do the same. You make a donation to a charity and they spend half the money you donated nagging you to cough up more. I get the impression they also distribute your details to other charities which seems both wasteful and counterproductive.

Namesco took over my previous host but on first renewal they were robbng me blind apart from being curt and unhelpful. I went to Krystal Hosting in London (EC1) who have been the exact opposite to Namesco. They are polite, prompt with dealing with support tickets - even though support agents are presently working from home - and very helpful. I know little about transferring websites to a new host but Krystal did the whole thing for me - they transferred hosting of my weather website to them and put up patiently with my many queries. They also set up free https for me. Their prices are very reasonable and I can thoroughly recommend them. No connection to me other than I'm a very satisfied Krystal customer who has just renewed my Amethyst package (£47.99 incl VAT) for another year with them.

Part of the problem is that we have not had a single sale via the website in over ten years. I just wonder whether it's better (and certainly much cheaper) to sent clients who express an interest, one or more pages which I have now downloaded and stored. Er, yes.

OFSO, isn't that a part of what we call Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and a different service to pay.

Can't wait, in view of the Corona thing maybe it would like to return to Corona free New Zealand a little earlier. ( currently no new cases for 11 days, only one case still to recover, none in hospital, total 21 deaths. Trouble is once we let people start flying in again .... ? )Just heard that it's three weeks before the sun reverses its traverse.
Re: Rant of the Day v2.
I hate it whenever someone says : " (Do you) know what I mean?", as you know that neither you nor they will have a clue about the topic.
Or these vague rambling sentences:
"You know when we went to the house near the man, you know, the one with the ummm, thing, he lived near your friends in that part of England that sticks out on the bottom at the side and we stopped on the way and had lunch, well, not exactly lunch, in a sort of pub near the road .........."

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
Windows on my desktop has gone tits up.
Managed to get it running as a guest user with only the boot HDD connected and backing up to an external HDD before a system rebuild.
So I'll be quiet for a while.

On 19th May, our Certificates of Residency, necessary for us to re-enter Spain, were posted to us certified delivery by the lovely Rachael in Spain. They arrived today, 9th June, 30 days later. Thrust, as it were, through the orifice in the front door, no signature required. A long time, and somewhat informal.

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
My passport is due for renewal now and I want to be ready to travel to Italy as soon as things are back to what passes for normal. However, the photos would make me look like I'm an escapee from a home for deranged Santa Claus impersonators. I can't decide whether to stick with the look, or allow SWMBO clipper access to the beard. Decisions, decisions.
