Frequently don't bother with spectacles round the house as my near sight is good. And I frequently don't bother turning lights on at night, having solar lights outside the windows..

Having had a satisfying pee last night I did think I'd better turn the light on over the WC to make sure my aim had been accurate, and horrors! Toilet bowl full of dark red liquid. Oh no. Grim Reaper hiding nearby?

Approached Mrs OFSO in fear and despondency... who vouchsafed that she was trying a new brand of WC cleaner and had poured some down the toilet just before my visit.... Bright red, too.

Coca-Cola is the finest lavatory bowl cleaner - just pour in the contents of a one litre bottle and leave it overnight. Flush first thing in the morning leaving a sparkling clean bowl.

It's the only reason that I ever buy it. And it has to be "proper" Coca-Cola, not the cheaper imitations - they don't seem to have sufficiently strong acid content

Isn't it a bit of a waste just flushing it away?

Boac frequently it is, and it is food stuff after all. And it might be more expensive than the commercial cleaning product.

My rant for the day although I am not sure if it is a rant. In mid July I ordered the "Flight Discipline" with a 35 work-day delivery time. It was to be delivered by last Friday and it wasn't. Here is the rant: I emailed the publisher/ book consolidator about the delivery delay and they just said they will refund the cost in 3-5 business day. I don't want the refund I want the book.

During one of the not infrequent seamen's strikes of the 60s, our local airline was called upon to move all sorts of weird and wonderful cargoes between Liverpool and the Isle of Man. One such was a huge glass container containing what was termed 'Coca-Cola syrup'. This turned out to be a concentrate, and had the fork lift driver not lost control of the commodity during the loading process, everything would have been fine. However, this was not the case and the container fell to the ground and the contents were quickly distributed across the sloping apron which Speke had at the time. A call was made to Coca -Cola to explain the situation and the manufacturer immediately went into full Defcon 1 mode, telling us to immediately cordon off the area and call the Fire Service to wash it away, and to be very careful how they did it. Fast forward 50 years, and the stain where the container was first dropped is still visible...

Just heard some damn fool woman on the Last Night of the Proms announce the performance of an aria from "The Meister Singers von Nürburg." Obviously she had her Ring cycles confused.

Bloody Mericans. Doling out death and destruction all over the globe for decades, and the outrage, the outrage, when someone does it to them. Not that I support the Arabs, et al, who blew up the two towers, but sh1t it was a brilliant bit of logistics.

And very cost effective

And if this article is correct, and it would appear the fact checking has been done, then there would be a lot of blame to share around.

Prospector, lots of possibles and potentials, proving and funding but probably only one hard failure, the multiplicity of agencies and organisations. They were all guarding their own fiefdoms, protecting funding lines and not cooperating.

Even when you establish a Joint organisation lower organisations can still operate in isolation. Still happens everywhere.

Spent a considerable part of today trying to speak to a human being at E.on Next about the tariffs that will apply after the 1st October price increases - they all seem to insist that a "Smart" meter is obligatory and I don't want one. Kept ringing the number specified only to be on hold for ages at each attempt with screaching "music" attacking my ears, eventually tried the on-line chat.

This is the "conversation" I had:

2021-09-15T16:26:38 EON Chat Bot : Hi there, I'm E.ON's Chat Bot assistant. I'm here to find out what you need so we can get you to the right place first time!

I'll try to answer any questions you might have, and if I can't we'll get you to one of our customer service specialists ASAP.
2021-09-15T16:26:38 EON Chat Bot : Give me a minute – I'll use your email to find your account.
2021-09-15T16:26:38 EON Chat Bot : Sorry, we're having some technical problems.
2021-09-15T16:26:38 EON Chat Bot : Please tell me in a few words how we can help.
2021-09-15T16:28:05 4ma : Re price changes due on 1st October. What tariff will apply if I don't select a new tariff?
2021-09-15T16:28:06 EON Chat Bot : So we can get you to the right place, please tell me how you usually pay your bills.

You can say "Cash when I get my bill",
"Direct Debit", "key or card meter", "Smart pay-as-you-go", or "something else".
2021-09-15T16:28:13 4ma : Direct Debit
2021-09-15T16:28:13 EON Chat Bot : I'm sorry we can't currently help you with this over chat. Please call our tariffs team on 0345 052 0000, they're available Mon-Fri from 9am to 5pm.
2021-09-15T16:28:18 EON Chat Bot : This chat session will now end.

I've been with Octopus for 3 years on annual fixed price deals - not always the cheapest on the market but they are now well established with good customer service. Apart from asking for monthly meter readings they leave me alone. On the two occasions I've contacted them they were excellent with timely responses. They have never nagged me about Smart meters. You can change your monthly Direct Debit yourself online if need be, done that twice - once up, once down - and it was never challenged. A pdf bill arrives within a couple of days of giving them a meter reading.

I haven't looked at their website for a while but last time I took out a fixed price deal it wasn't what they call "one of our most popular tariffs". I delved deeper on their website to find a cheaper one that suited me. No early exit fees on the tariffs I took out even though they were fixed term.

Went to the pharmacy to pick up prescription.
"That'll be $140.00 for a 30 day supply." :-o
"But I paid $49.00 for the same drug last month." :-?
"You did, but now its $140.00"
"Why?" :-?
"You are probably in a coverage gap. Call you Medicare supplemental insurer."
Called my Medicare supplemental insurer. Was told that I was indeed in a coverage gap.
"How do I get out of this gap?" :-??
"Spend $6500.00 more on medications." X(
Needless to say I am not a happy camper!
