Hopping mad. Went to ENT doctor who works with our international insurance company. Receptionist refused our cards as they were not issued in Spain, she called the Spanish branch of the insurance, who told her she was right to refuse their own International Cards. Tried to pay with bank card, doctor only takes cash. Went out to find an ATM, came back with cash. We then sat for 80 minutes past our appointment time. Others ahead of us. I said to the Mem', I'm not waiting any longer. Nobody in reception to complain to. Walked out. Wasted morning.

E-mail has now gone to my insurance company suggesting they remove this doctor from their International Services website. Actually he is OK, but his practice is a disaster.

We just pay any bills, take a pic with the phone and off it goes with the app, money refunded in a couple of days. If the bill is huge the hospital etc can send the bill direct to the insurers.

No. Complex situation for medical insurance of former international government staff. High premiums and only 90% reimbursement but good service. Financed by employer but administered by big US insurer. Go to a provider affiliated to the Insurance Company and they deal with the bills. Go to an unaffiliated provider and you pay and claim back via internet. In this case it was a "Spanish situation". They make up their own rules.

Passengers were 'evacuated' from the Overground train which hit the buffers, detailed, but remained upright alongside the platform at Enfield station. So they didn't merely 'disembark' or in pukka 'get off' then...

Got a proper one now. Plumber due at 10, assured we were on his list. 1.30 and I'm off. Fortunately it is not urgent. He was supposed to be here 9 days ago too.

My situation is similar to yours, PN. I've had the guy here before, so I called him about 10 days ago and he said he would come last week, but he didn't arrive. Sent him a text on Tuesday and he said he would come today - no signs so far. Like yours, not urgent, but it keeps me tied to the house.

So far this week we have been let down by gardeners twice, electricians once, roofers once and garage door menders once. Life is a bugger when you start to get a bit old and can't get up ladders and do heavy gardening etc. The days of the reliable odd job man are long gone now it is more lucrative to be on the dole and benefits.

This is why I try to do a lot of general maintenance myself. I've done some electrical work and some plumbing work, although I did pass on replacing the second sump pump (turned out to be in a deeper sump than the first, and also bolted down, and I couldn't fit through the hole. The plumber was smaller and had all the protective gear too.

I had a plumbing job. The first was a big bloke with a pot belly, said the bathroom floor would have to come up. Managed to get a nearby plumber, small weed of a man. He did the job going through the ceiling. He didn't need as much space.

Not really a rant, just very sad at a discovery today.

I was out with me canal colleagues clearing a feeder stream into the canal. We came to a culvert where the flow of water was slow and building up. We cleared on-side of the culvert then crossed the road to clear the other side, only to find the bodies of 12 adult hares which had been dumped in the stream. The animals had their legs tied together so we guessed it was hare coursers disposing of their ill-gotten gains after being disturbed. They were still reasonably fresh. What kind of cretin finds pleasure in destroying such beautiful creatures?

PN, one of our team who lives in a nearby village did just that whilst we on-site. Plod hadn't turned up by the time we packed up and left but they were made aware of the location.

Our Wildlife officer featured, unfortunately, on TV chasing some courses. Their car and the police Land rover circling around at night until the Landie got bogged down.

They may well keep watch at night looking for lampers.

Our dog likes chasing hares too. Hasn't a hope in hell of catching one. One day a pair I think messed around with her moving off just far enough to annoy but well out of reach. Scottie against a pair of hares!

I had to go into our local town of Roses this morning at a time when the sun was low and right in my eyes, and hence I slowed at the many pedestrian crossings, all obscured by parked cars. And I noticed something. Every, but every, no exceptions, every woman on the crossing or pavement, was a headscarf-wearing Muslim. This country has been taken over by North Africa. .

I hope this doesn't come across as misogynistic, not intended. The ABC - Aust Broadcasting Comm. is currently run by by a woman who gained her "fame" by running a women's gossip magazine, and it shows. Hence the rant.

Female announcers who appear fresh out of a few hours in a beauty salon with big smiles, announcing the number of people who have died from covid overnight. There is absolutely no sense of the gravity of a situation they are announcing. Doesn't seem to matter what they are announcing, it's always accompanied with a big smile, and they are made up to the nines, and dressed for a night at the theatre.

But I do agree although our females are tending to to be older having largely won the gender and pay war. We have a particularly overbearing one on everything, news reader, political show, popular entertainment. As I said before I can't be arsed to remember names.

Drifting slightly, there is squeaky little bloke (?) came out as a non functioning gay, now lives in his family garage I've been told, who pops up on radio advertising a used car company. How many people cringe when he comes on?
