Don't see why not there are Spanish in the cities that don't realise that a postal delivery is a thing of wonder to some.

Six-weekly-deliveries to our front door up the mountain are a thing of wonder to our cleaner, the lovely Ms R., who lives a hundred yards from the post office and never gets anything stuffed in her letterbox.

From myself also. Having a diesel for the main vehicle, less of a problem. Second petrol car locked in garage.

Jim, what car is that? Is it worth getting a Cat lock as a deterrent?

Good job aftermarket exists, my garage tells me that Toyota have nil stock; back orders in 3 - 7 weeks.

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
My father worked in the spare parts department of a large motor dealer that was the Australian agent for Rolls Royce. The following story may or may not be apocryphal.
A gentleman came to the spare parts counter wanting a replacement hub cap for his RR, as one had been stolen. As you'd expect, the cost was exorbitant, but the chap who served him said that he could get a 2nd hand one a lot cheaper if he would wait a couple of days.
When the customer returned to collect his replacement, he was very cranky, as someone had stolen another hubcap from his RR.

Back from day out in Small Car, found screw in tire of Big Car, repaired for €18, but tyre man said all four tires down to minimum and need replacing. Only done 82,000 kms too.

Gotta love it. Repairs your tyre €18 then charges you for 4 new ones including the repaired one. [Joke]

No. Repair man pointed out that all tyres were down to the legal minimum, something I hadn't noticed. Annual inspection later this year would fail car. An accident would result in fines. I then drove around (tyre repaired) checking prices.
New tires on order for 24th March, after I return here.

I watched man repair tyre. Pity hernias and haemorrhoids can't be fixed the same way.

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
Latest edict from the bunch of taxpayer-funded idiots at the former British Wasteaways (aka Canal & River Trust) is that a survey must be conducted no more than 12 hours before we do anything on the canal which might affect the birds nesting. If these clowns think I'm going to walk along an unlit towpath in the middle of the night trying to locate nesting birds, they can ****ing whistle Dixie.

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
You just walk along the towpath with a torch and note that you can't see any nesting birds. They should have specified 24 hours so you could at least do it at a sensible time the day before.4mastacker wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 7:17 pmLatest edict from the bunch of taxpayer-funded idiots at the former British Wasteaways (aka Canal & River Trust) is that a survey must be conducted no more than 12 hours before we do anything on the canal which might affect the birds nesting. No more than 12 hours... 5 minutes before you start is also no more than 12 hours.4mastacker wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 7:17 pmLatest edict from the bunch of taxpayer-funded idiots at the former British Wasteaways (aka Canal & River Trust) is that a survey must be conducted no more than 12 hours before we do anything on the canal which might affect the birds nesting. Re: Rant of the Day v2.
Good point, well made.
However, a lot of our work is in very rural and remote locations - our volunteers have to travel from various points. C&RT have mandated that each survey must cover the whole section between two bridges - three if we are working either side of a bridge - meaning we could have to check a three-mile stretch of canal for work that is covering perhaps 100 yards. Sheer bloody-minded bureaucracy for the sake of it - someone trying to justify their existence.
