"The rocket will be visible to most of the UK within moments of ignition."

Another load of stupidity...

Do we know the orbital inclination and launch point?

Ta - that launch direction is unusual. That's not that far off a polar orbit.

Unless they're doing it on the turn. It's probably safest for testing, anything going wrong should end up in the Atlantic.

Today's idiotic remark from the presenters of GMB. "How can we justify spending twenty million pounds on a satellite launch when the NHS is short of money."

Discuss.

And on Earth:
Etd 0900
0845 ready when you are
0846 don't rush me, I'm going to the loo.

What happened between 0845 and 0846?

Recently, we have been plagued by a considerable number of silent phone calls from a supposedly Lincoln-based number - upto six times a day. Because the number didn't show up as friends or family, we let it go to answerphone. However, every time the answerphone cut in, the call was dis-connected with no message left. After another five calls today, I reported it to OFCOM.

This evening, the number called again and as I was expecting a call from a firm in Lincoln, I answered the phone - it was from our wonderful United Lincolnshire Hospital Trust carrying out a patient survey and asking for my view of how they performed when I was taken to A&E in July!!

....And there's me thinking the NHS is short of funds and is under pressure from overwhelming numbers of patients, whilst all the while they're more concerned about how they faired six bloody months ago. I can now think of an area where they can save some cash. Not so complimentary letters to the CEO and my MP are being written.
It's always my fault - SWMBO

Oh dear, am I wrong to just wear a polo shirt, pullover and fleece?

Health officials have told the public to wear several thin items of clothing this week and consume plenty of hot drinks as they issue a new cold weather alert.

Dear Nanny, is my heavy jumper and down jacket wrong? How many thin items should I wear? Can you tell me what fabrics they should be.

Where can I get plenty of hot drinks on my countryside walk.?

FFS what next?

I remember, 14th Jan 1980, it was a day such as this in Lincoln. Cold hard frost but beautiful sunny 8/8 blue. Out of a clear sky came rain. It turned instantly to sheet ice. It was followed shortly after by a heavy snowfall with about 6 inches of snow.

We had been en route to Marham for a briefing but knocked it on the head.

I took the opportunity to nip into town on foot in full Arctic gear. On the way back at the bus stop were office workers going home. I remember one woman, bare feet, strappy high heels and tight pants.

Maybe 40 years on Nanny State really is necessary.

Living in Denmark I became accustomed to seeing females in Winter sensibly and suitably equipped wearing boots waiting at bus-stops.

Of course their boots etc would be removed when they arrived at work.

Actually, 40 years ago in Scotland it was not unusual to see toddlers in pushchairs bare foot in winter. Hardy lot the Scots.

When my German wife and I moved to the UK in 1978 one of the first differences she noticed from Germany was the footware women wore in bad weather. She couldn't understand why they didn't get ill.

I am utterly fed up to the back teeth with the negative outlook on every damned subject on English media, always predicting the worse, blowing up trivialities out of all proportion. I watch French, Catalan and some German TV news each morning, and other countries don't do this. An example: the BBC last Friday went blathering on about IF the economic figures for the previous quarter were as bad as expected, the UK MIGHT be entering recession. Surprise surprise, they were better than expected, and the UK isn't entering recession (but Germany is, well and truly). The worst is always expected, no matter what, we never stop "crying stinking fish in our own backyard".

These girls are suitably equipped for a night out in a wintery Newcastle although one of them seems slightly over-dressed.
