Re: Rant of the Day v2.
Text messaging ? Grrrr !
Why can't people just use the phone to talk, for a start it is easier than punching keys to write a long message ?
My dimfone cellphone only gives one quiet "beep" for incoming texts, which is easily missed in everyday life.
Yesterday I left my trailer for its bi-annual road safety check, and the garage agreed to ring me when it was ready for collection, maybe same day, maybe day after, no urgency for either of us. Hearing nothing during the day I didn't bother them, but this morning I picked up my mobile and noticed that I had missed a text during yesterday afternoon advising ready for collection. Maybe they consider texting even cheaper than a brief voice call, but they are well aware of my landline number, and they also use a landline, and local calls are free. Texting seems to be the modern mode of communication ? A pox on it.
I'm not a 16 yr. old female with a phone welded to my right paw, and frequently miss texts. Tough.

I'm not a big fan of texting.
On the other hand, my ex is from the Donald Trump School of Texting.

Texting via a Smartphone with a visual pseudo keyboard may be OK, but I have to press numbered keys where all the Alpha Beta additional characters have been almost worn away and were only about 0.001 mm in size anyway, requiring reading glasses of 10x magnification viz p q r s all on the 7 key for instance. Who's responsible for starting this rubbish, Jobs or Gates ?

Yesterday I missed a second WA from Mrs OFSO while out shopping. Solution is easy: go to settings and change Mrs OFSO's incoming WA tone from a gentle "beep-beep" to an "incoming missile attack" warning, and turn her volume setting to maximum.

Wish I could do that, even the local Alcatel agent couldn't change the incoming text noise, only able to improve the ringtone for incoming voice calls. Yes, I guess I could buy a better phone, but ain't going to.

Text has its place
In Yr case ExSpb that wasn't it. We frequently miss texts on either phone.
Texts, like emails are not intrusive.

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
The smarty phone that my techmeister got for me allows texts to be send without typing. Just touch the little mike icon and off ya go. They are preferred to actually phoning if (a) the recipient is known to be at a meeting, church or otherwise unable to speak, or (b) a list or other technical information is needed which then can be accessed at recipients convenience as needed. Whether this is preferable to an email depends on the user, as some people never seem to check one or the other. It helps to know your audience.

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
When the lockdown ended we had to re-submit a new medical included a full health record since childhood. We included a document stating we didn't have COVID. Then the pool closed down for some maintenance and repair work. Today it re-opened with the requirement for a new medical reproducing the documents we submitter after the lockdown has ended. I am all for safety and COVID can be nasty but it seems some people go into a bureaucratic frenzy when they feel they are given a carte blanche.
Instructions from the sport federation suggest on a strong suggestion rather than an obligation on renewing the medical. Obviously going to a doctor's practice it increases the risk of catching COVID but producing more paper is so nice to some people.

Apple's updates!!!
Apple done an automatic update and now me 'puter is slower than a one-legged tortoise when it's loading pages. Unlike 'Window's', there's no 'restore' function to take it back to where it last worked properly. Is it a cunning plot to direct me to their latest and not-so-cheap offerings?

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
4ma, maybe they are telling you to buy a new one.
Meanwhile Mr Gates's best have tried to match the cockups. It seems the recent update was a NEW Internet browser. It is still called EDGE but is new.
Some time back this year I could not log in to my bank account, at the same time the bank itself had problems. I eventually sorted it.
Then it happened again a week or so back. That's when I found it was a new Edge from the update that I suspected. One fix on line was to revert to the legacy version FFS. I also found fixes back for Win 8.
Essentially put the URL into the trusted advisor list. The instructions were simple, using Internet Explorer do a, b, c. Then in Edge do x, y, z. The first bit worked perfectly. The second might work with the legacy version of Edge but not the new one as all the controls under the bonnet are different.

Another indication of the problems we have on British roads - from Sussex police twitter:
"Another vehicle stop for another driver who missed the 30mph speed limit signs as well as my marked Police car as he sped past!
Unbelievably the driver only passed his test THIS WEEK and it’s already his SECOND lot of points!!!

Guy stopped after doing 100mph on the Humber bridge this week by the police response was., "How did you expect me to know that you would be in an unmarked S3?"
Apparently an S3 is a very fast Audi..

BOAC, if he was doing 30 as soon as he entered the zone he would have been 1:1,000. We were sited at least 300 m inside the zone and I think the police allow a similar opportunity to slow down.
Re: Rant of the Day v2.
PN ?? What are you referring to?

G-CPTN ?? What are you referring to?
Re: Rant of the Day v2.
What has that to do with my post?
Re: Rant of the Day v2.
It was by way of an explanation to the query raised by you as to what PN was referring to 1DC about the miscreant motorist exceeding the 50mph speed limit by 50mph whilst complaining that the Police had employed a plain-clothes Audi S3 car that was faster than their BMW M140i.
