Not a great complainer about the NHS because i have almost always had good service and think they do a good job with the resources they have when stacked up against the demands of the public.
BUT, a good friend was admitted to the local hospital last friday, she was quite ill but also had serious other issues that were being treated by a specialist hospital. The specialist hospital asked for her to be transferred to them as a soon as they could, this was 2230 on saturday. A combination of no available ambulance and then no available bed was repeated twice and she was finally transferred at 0130 on wednesday. Surely they could have performed better than that.

Looking on the bright side OAT now risen to -2C; indoors however it's rapidly sinking to that level. Slasher - you'd love it. Two guys down a hole down the road seemingly digging at the bare chalk with their fingernails so slow is any progress. Six hours to not fix one house so far; reckon our chances of gas today are looking slim. Their track record isn't great - it was the same utility subcontractor that buggered up the high voltage electrical cables when digging about half a mile away causing us to have no, and then intermittent, electricity for several days before Christmas. Lounging by a lagoon after a busy town day has some appeal at present as long as someone kept the NR away.
Re: Rant of the Day v2.
A couple of years ago I was taken to the Tate Modern. What a load of crap.
At one point I saw a radiator (heating type) leaning from the wall at an angle as if its support had broken. Then I saw it had a label on it and was an exhibit.
The idiots are the people who go and see this crap and pay money to buy it. The 'artists' must be laughing all the way to the bank.

Not all modern art is a load of Jackson Bollox and, remember that by definition today's modern art my be tomorrow's old classic!

I appreciate most genres of art, including modern art, but I visited the Tate Modern a couple of years ago, and a greater waste of space I've yet to see. Mind you, 'appreciate' doesn't necessarily mean 'like'. Some art just isn't to my taste, even if I can appreciate what it's trying to say. But the TM seemed to be lacking any redeeming features.
Re: Rant of the Day v2.
We probably all agree that 90% of art is rubbish, but we can't agree on which 90%.

I agree Caco. That commissioned portrait of your good self may become worth at least one million Dong in 50 years!Cacophonix wrote: ↑Fri Feb 01, 2019 9:01 amremember that by definition today's modern art my be tomorrow's old classic!

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
I would suggest that art cannot truly resonate with the observer unless the spirit, skill and creativity of the artist shows through the work. in many cases the sheer audacity of the concept and the technical skill of the artist is what amazes us. Why do we feel a great cathedral is art, why do we feel the Spitfire and its Merlin engine is art, why do we feel that the beautiful female voice in a song is art? It is because we recognise something beautiful that takes our breath away in the knowledge that we ourselves could never create such a wonder.
Now, as far as the examples of modern art go I have often produced better paintings when I needed to use up the paint in a half-empty can on a wall that I was sure no one would ever see. The spirit of the artist shows as a flat colour on a flat surface and the technical skill is the mundane ability to use a paint roller. No thank you.

I modelled it on this one Slash...
You will have seen it reprised in this film...

Familiar with both Caco. Recall I was going to prance up and down the cabin in Frank's outfit with that clip blasting over the IFE on my last flight before retiring.
Embarrassed to report I chickened out last minute. Apparently it would've reduced my final handshake payout if a raghead pax had complained.

I don't blame you Slash. Better to take the money than be dismissed in suspenders and stockings!Slasher wrote: ↑Fri Feb 01, 2019 5:39 pmFamiliar with both Caco. Why is it, that if you purchase something over the Internet, you will be pestered to buy another one? If I needed 2, I'd have bought 2.
It is bad enough to have to switch off your add blocker to access certain sites, but can't the marketing idiots try to sell you something different?

If any site tells me to switch off my ad-blocker I just immediately go to another similar one that doesn't. It then gets my business.

It is getting very difficult to find a financially free and add free news source.
Even the UK Telegraph, with most of the 'news' being 'premium' the remaining free need your adblocker turned off.
The BBC is just about the last add free site.

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
On the subject of art and the Tate again, I sometimes do wonder if the Tate takes itself or its work seriously?
Judging by this news in 2012, not always.

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
I subscribe to the Telegraph. It annoys me that when I go to the site it asks me to switch off my Adblocker. It's a bit like buying a train ticket at the ticket office and then being told to buy another one before you board the train.
I am sometimes tempted to contribute to the Guardian purely for its high journalistic standard, however I am sick and tired of seeing links to its content posted by our resident (pseudo) Marxist on this site and the thought that I am contributing to something for him (or her) is repellent.

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
What gets me is the silly psychological wording they employ to turn it off, akin to...
Oh dear! We detect you have an ad-blocker turned on! Oh we're so surprised! Now why don't you be really really nice and turn it off so we can flood you with inane crap you haven't the slightest interest in, as well as chew up your bandwidth and IP plan limit. Because without all those annoying ads we can't make money! Now be a good sport huh pretty please?
That EU privacy ***** is another that pisses me off (prove your not a robot etc). That's why I use Saudi Arabia or Singapore on my VPN. Germany was pretty reliable till all that privacy crap started.
