Rant of the Day v2.
Re: Rant of the Day v2.
Did it have an odour of fish? - having been used as a wrapper for Friday's meal?

You can get the Telegraph for just over £100 per year delivered to your phone/pc every day. It arrives at 0400 GMT wherever you are in the world providing you have a signal. You have to be comfortable reading it of course.

The FT weekend has been at the news agents - mostly with their colour supplement - every Saturday this year until today. Delivery drivers having the day off. The DM likewise. The two papers are at each end of the spectrum, so to speak, which suits us. No, I don't like papers on the phone or tablet, although nearly all are there for free via a certain app.

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
Person across the road is using a motor-mower on Easter Day, they also performed rackety demolition work at 8:30pm on Christmas Eve;
next-door water-blasted their roof on the last public-holiday afternoon;
there was a chainsaw operating somewhere nearby at 7:40am a couple of Sundays ago.
Whatever happened to the convention that one did not undertake noisy work that might annoy neighbours on early mornings, Sundays and public holidays?

There's rosemary, that's for remembrance. ...

In this part of the world only one nationality breaks convention and carries out noisy work or has building done on Sundays and public Holy Days. Nobody complains so they get away with it.

It really varies. We switched from paper when lock down prevented us getting a print copy. We got a special rate of £180 per year. Rate today for a new subscriber is £25.99 per month.
In Friday suddenly got told our subscription was not recognised. Was our special rate for 12 months only? Strange though not telling us. Of course they are shut until Tuesday *ankers.

As posted elsewhere the FT Weekend arrived today. News of another financial scandal. Unregulated Family investments using instruments I don't understand. Ho hum.

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
So there I am today in the checkout at Sainsbury's when a supervisor comes up to the checkout lady and says, "We've just been told that no earrings larger than a 5p piece are to be worn on while on duty." WTF! I mean here we are in the middle of a pandemic and all someone in an office somewhere can worry about is the size of the earrings the staff are wearing! The woman concerned did have what I would call normal earrings on (as she showed me), but they were covered by her hair. I could understand it if there was an H&S angle to this, but I hardly think working on a checkout is hazardous to your ears, apart from when there are screaming kids in the shop.
I have a feeling the store may have a new manager, because a lot of the stuff had been moved to different areas, which confuses an old man like me. I think I shall fire off a missive to their customer services department.

It occurs to me, apart from being BAD PRACTICE in front of a customer, that the customer should have objected to the supervisor for delaying you.tango15 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 08, 2021 3:07 pmSo there I am today in the checkout at Sainsbury's when a supervisor comes up to the checkout lady and says, "We've just been told that no earrings larger than a 5p piece are to be worn on while on duty." Re: Rant of the Day v2.
ENOUGH!
Can we have some normal UK tv programs back today?
Not being disrespectful, but having the same old news items with some naff fill in sprouting on PP on repeat on practically every network is crazy.

After a week without the Telegraph we realised how much we missed it. Also we hadn't missed the dirty hands from three print copy.Pontius Navigator wrote: ↑Sun Apr 04, 2021 11:16 amIt really varies. Eventually got a call back from them, their fault they had not taken the payment. Reinstated our original deal plus annual payment discount, just £150 for the year.

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
BBC R2 has cancelled today's programming. The BBC are not fit for purpose as this proves. At least two of the substitute presenters are not British. So what was wrong with keeping the normal schedule?
I decide what I hear and is appropriate, not some overpaid clowns.
Whoever is responsible should be sacked immediately.
I have exercised my right of choice. BBC R2 is binned and Radio Caroline Flashback substituted. There programming hasn't been changed.
