Probably not changed much, but I remember getting my weekly pocket money, one penny, and spending hours in the sweet shop deciding what to buy.

I have been among many people in an enclosed space (village hall) and have acquired the sniffles.
Fortunately such occurrences are usually short-lived.

Oh, and after my physical exertions yesterday (planting 300 young trees), my limbs seem loath to operate normally. I feel like I have played several hours of strenuous tennis.

I've decided to cancel tomorrow's 6-mile walk.

Wrong investment C16; we got tuppence on a Barclay's savings account last month.

Rant time. Plumber supplies. We had a leak in the water supply pipe to our fridge/freezer. At 7:30 this morning, I was at the local supplier with the offending part. "Nah, we don't stock them; refrigerator supplier (15 miles away) will have them". Some time later, "Nah, never seen them; try Plumb Centre (1 mile from home)". Nope. Found one on Southamericanrainforest for £3.99 with free next day delivery. DIY? Shove it. Capped the pipe, so no fresh ice until tomorrow.

The totally useless and incompetent ULHT, which oversees our local hospitals ( I won't say 'run' cos they couldn't run a bath), now wants to permanently close the local A&E department after "temporarily" closing it since August 2016. As part of their "consultation" they held a "we are listening" session on the town centre.

What a waste of time that was! An exercise in box-ticking when the final decision has already been made.

A line-up of managers all spouting the party line and not able to answer the questions of people genuinely concerned at the consequences of the closure.

The specimen who was looking after the A&E presentation table didn't even know that when their plans go ahead, there will be no A&E facility in the A1 corridor from Peterborough to Worksop - a distance of about 75 miles.

Anyone in this area who is unfortunate enough to need A&E admission faces a journey of about an hour, providing an ambulance turns up. The local undertakers must be rubbing their hands with glee.

Not at all unusual for a true blue area, Mr S. Withdrawal of "socialist" amenities (such as you describe) will continue while the cons are confident of getting your vote.

I wouldn't be so sure. The current MP has announced he won't be standing at the next GE cos quite probably, he'll be out on his backside if he decides to stand. It might be true blue territory, but it doesn't stop the true blues being ****ing angry at their MP. I know quite a number of true blues who are looking elsewhere to cast their vote. Tory Central Office should be getting very concerned.

4m and our MP (I didn't vote for him) had a 20,000 majority but I think there is some dissent in the local party so highly likely they will deselect him and not just for Brexit.

In a similar vein, I have just read that our local authority is " consulting" on a plan to charge businesses such as childminders, nursery schools, paid dog-walkers etc, for the privilege of using public parks. Not sure how they plan to administer that.

Boles has deselected himself. It's in today's local rag.

Why can't women coil hoses (or cables or washing lines) ? I invariably find they've put a twist in them. Hand over hand, feeding the coil STRAIGHT is what I was taught in the GPO 58 years ago.

How about appliance wires that twist?

Some remain tangle free and others link from first use.

On hoses I gave up, got auto rewind reels.

Me fresh out of school at 17, apprentice in the GPO, handed a coil of 5lb copper wire, remember when phone lines came over open copper wire ? Told to coil it kink-free. Yes, right. A lot of arse-kicking went on back then, especially if you upset the Coddie.

Hoses yes, but the cables, more correctly wires, and frequently vacuums and irons, seem to have a life of their own.

Does the other half commandeer the TV remote then wind the volume to zero rather than use the mute, and go through the channel guide one at a time rather than use the prog shift 10 at a go. Do they then flick through the channel s passed the one you want and demonstrate an inability to get back to it?
