On Thursday March 30 I mailed five cards.
The card to the nearest addressee, 25km away, was delivered on Tuesday April 11.
Pathetic.
And with the morn, those angel faces smile...

I've played package tag before now. Saw one that arrived at a depot in Newark CA (about 20 miles north), then went out to Tracy, a 55 mile road trip, then back to San Jose, then finally delivered.

I've seen stuff out for delivery that failed to arrive even though I've seen one of the company's trucks drive past mid-afternoon, and it had to be delivered the following day. I often wonder with those whether it's a screw-up in the system and the driver finds the package as things empty out and it gets uncovered.

We don't tend to get the claim that no one was at home, because here most stuff just gets left on the porch. Or the driveway, which has happened a few times, although for those my theory is that the driver is afraid of dogs and knows that we have big, loud ones. It pays to be attentive and go pick up the packages before someone else does, although there have been instances where someone is clearly following the delivery vehicle and will grab the package within a couple of minutes of delivery.

Several times here it's because he can't be bothered to drive up the long driveway. I've seen them take a look, pull away, then stop a few hundred yards away, where they think they are out of sight, rearrange their load, then drive off again.
Not sure if it's sheer laziness, a piece-rate payment system, or they have too many packages for the time allowance.

For us it's similar, our urbanisation is up a mountain. Probably why we didn't receive the invitation to the Coronation. At least, I'd like to think so....

Lucky to have a postal delivery. We have to drive 40 kms to the post office which we do about twice a year.

Well if it does it is probably in the wrong private bag along with my KG. There is going to be a NR in ermine there in wellie boots instead of me.

Come on, no TPLAC Dictator is going to be happy with being Lord Prince King Umfolozi Legion d'Honneur, Order of the Pink Chrysanthemum, etc,

he has to be Sir Lord Prince King Umfolozi Legion d'Honneur, Order of the Pink Chrysanthemum, etc,

Some of our parcel delivery people seem unable to find a simple address. Locals are always posting about receiving parcels addressed to someone else, or having been advised that their parcel was delivered, together with photo of where it was left, when it clearly hasn't. Also, some of these couriers, instead of photographing the parcel in situ when it is delivered, send the same photo with each notification.

Instead of hanging around all day for the re-delivery that might never happen anyway,
I heading out for the day to do something useful for a friend.
Despite the implication that my head would somehow end up on a spike if I wasn't personally there to "Sign 'Ere, Guv",
I arrived home in the evening to find parcel delivered.

There's a moral there, somewhere.

The above reminds me of collecting spare parts consignments when I worked at Port Moresby, I would be sent a fax saying parts shipped on flight
so and so, and after waiting for said parts to clear customs, usually, 2 days I would wander down to the freight shed to retrieve the said package. Only
to be told that the package was not there, look over the counter and see a pile about 4 feet high spread all over the floor. the pile was caused by the
daily flights from Oz arriving close to each other, if your freight arrived before the other one it would be on the bottom of the pile and if it was not
collected before the next day's flights arrive then that was where it stayed, was no use telling the NR to look on the bottom as all you got was
"Mi no sabe."

We went through a phase in the UK of having cases of wine dumped outside our front gate. I drank them. Our next door neighbour had one and kept it (upright) for six months to see if anyone claimed it back.

It was the same in Arawa. Especially frustrating when you could see the parcel sitting in the pile, and had to convince oli that it was there, you could see it, and he should get off his arse and get it for you.

Hydro, the only way I ever got my parts was by having our company get some tape made in purple and yellow stripes with AOG printed on it, and
apply with gusto to said package, at least then you could see it amongst the pile and get the lazy buggers to get it for you.

From the Telegraph :
The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) announced plans to target A&E departments, cancer units and intensive care facilities over the May Day bank holiday weekend, as another major health union overwhelmingly backed the terms of the offer.

Won't affect Grantham. They closed our A&E months back.

To be fair, our NHS Trust did not vote to strike.

Our A&E is open....but they have no anaesthetists. So, more of an 'a' than an 'A&E'

At least at that speed it doesn't hang about long.
