Re: Rant of the Day v2.
Coincidence Pontius, but yesterday my Mondeo refused to sync with my phone and kept telling me Emergency Assistance wasn't available and it didn't know where we were. I manually synced phone and car, worked, until next time I turned car off, then told me I hadn't my phone with me. Cure was to turn Blue teeth off on phone, then restart it. Mondeo then said "thats more like it" smiled and patted me on the back. Oh dear. Remember when all one needed was an ignition key and a door pocket full of maps!

I can't remember where, but I saw an article or advert for crushed glass in concrete.Pontius Navigator wrote: ↑Fri Apr 30, 2021 6:44 amRandom thought, wonder if you could use glass instead if coarse sand for cement or concrete.

The Saga of the Windscreen Wiper is ended. In a small village nearby is a service station that sells everything automotive. Went in there and while comparing lengths was approached by the young lady from behind the till: about 6'2" and not an inch of fat but lots of muscle. Possibly I may have met her before, years ago on a language course, but masked-up it's hard to tell. Upon hearing of my dilemma she produced a tape measure and asked me to whip it out. She pronounced herself content with 70cms and for £12 thrust something suitable into my hand, telling me that fitments for every make were included, and it was NOT Chinese-made. Sure enough from 12 included plastic pieces was one for the Mondeo. A pleasure doing business with her. I can now wipe with confidence.

Triumph and Ford, ignition key optional.
Fuses under bonnet, two of them, couldn't dignify it as a fuse box. Remove one fuse and push it into the gap between the two. Then press remote starter button in the bowels of the near empty engine bay.

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
Sigh, I must check my BP. My 20 year old nephew is coming down to see his father this weekend (his parents are divorced) and was keen to see his grumpy old uncle, i.e. me. He can't stay at my place as my better half's mom is here, and is a vulnerable person, as she is undergoing chemotherapy, and anyway he is not part of our bubble so it would be illegal (I think). Anyway I have booked him in for a night the Black Bull, where the girls who sit outside are buxom, the food is good and the beer even better, Plan was for him to catch a train down and I would pick him up and take him for lunch which I have pre-booked for tomorrow. I explained all this to him and he confirmed all the relevant times with me earlier this week. Anyway some premonition made me recheck the time of his train from Norwich, and bugger me, he had made a hash of the timings and a cascade of missed bookings, connections and lunches would have occurred if he had persisted with this nonsensical itinerary. I have rectified his schedule. What are the odds of him cocking this up again?
I am going to suggest he work as a logistics advisor for Wiz Air.
I was going to suggest BA, but I wouldn't wish that on Woody!

Had another email yesterday saying that they can’t give us a return date yet, probably going to be just as ZA becomes doable againTheGreenGoblin wrote: ↑Fri Apr 30, 2021 1:31 pmAnother one of my nephews works for your lot by the way....

Funnily enough I have heard several time Alitalia to be the most punctual airline - on an industry review not on a science fiction book.

Our tutor, known as 4-eyes Jones, used to squeeze 4 of us in his Austin 7 and take us to some cafe away from school and feed us ham sandwiches. I can still recall the ozone smell of the electrics (?).

Completely forgot that Mercadonna, the only Spanish supermarket here, which has the best products and lower prices, would be shut today. And no papers as delivery drivers taking the day off. And pouring, cold, and windy.
Re: Rant of the Day v2.
This is corrugated paper filters. Every so often I have to switch the system off, open the valve on the top of the filter to let the water level drop, remove the top of the filter housing, lift out the filter cartridges, cart them over to where the hose lives[*], wash them off while trying to keep the dogs out of the way because they love playing with the hose, then lug them back, reinstall them, put the lid back on, start the pump then turn off the valve when it starts squirting water (because all the air is now out).
[*] Hose is by what passes for a lawn here, so the water and filter contents wash off and drain.
Re: Rant of the Day v2.
How often do they need to be changed out and at what cost?
Only have experience with sand filter.

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
We are also on sand filter. I was told that whenever the pressure gauge goes into yellow it's time for a one minute backwash then one minute rinse, repeat until the viewglass is clear, and that the filter will last for ever. So why did we change the sand? So long ago, can't remember.
Re: Rant of the Day v2.
I was told that sand needs changing every 5 years or so. Reason given: Grains of sand get rounded over time and this inhibits its ability to trap stuff. Other school says "Never needs changing".
400# of silica sand. Spendy if purchased at pool store (as pool sand) but much cheaper if bought through masonry supply store. $16 / 100#. Must be silica though.
