I bought a chest freezer from a well known purveyor of such things in Stirling. Delivery to be the following day at a stated time. I saw the van do a three point turn at the drive entrance and bugger off.

The entrance is in West Lothian but is a matter of a few dozen metres from the county boundary with Falkirk (formerly Stirlingshire). We actually have two postcodes because we straddle the county boundary. The driver turned around because he found that the delivery address was across the county boundary and said the the delivery should be made from the Edinburgh depot!

I was mightily pissed off because I had two deer carcasses that I wanted to freeze down to give to a friend who was visiting from down South. I had to wait three days for the Edinburgh depot to send the freezer.

SD cards - more important than capacity is the transfer speed, indicated by the number on the card. Cheap ones don't perform well in some functions.
Isn't the speed of the transfer dependent of the camera too?

RiS, indeed everything needs to be compatible spec to avoid a choke point.

In time gone by when things were evolving rapidly, HDD speeds, modem speeds, WiFi or LAN speeds etc kept increasing but there was no point in going for a superfast widget without planning to upgrade the rest too.

Yes, just as an anchor is only as strong as its weakest link, a system is only as fast as its slowest item. A lot of folk have been disappointed to discover that their super-fast fibre-to-the-premises broadband is still crawling along on some websites.

Wanted to access the Barclay's system, discovered at 17h00 on Friday night, that my Barclays Pin Sentry needs new batteries!

Ian, how yester year. Two years ago our bank would send out new devices rather than have us do a battery change.
Now they offer a recycling service as the devices have been obsolete for a couple of years.

You are in the UK!

Getting a new device to me is a DHL transaction, and takes a couple of weeks at least.

I went online to order ten 5 micron 10" sediment filters for my private water supply. My usual supplier wanted £44 for 10 and the order until now was much cheaper and post free but slow time. Fine. Except their website now says that all Aberdeen postcodes are classified as being in the Highlands =)) so no free delivery and DPD set the charges(!) at £15. Absolute rubbish! DPD deliver a 25kg parcel here with no delivery charge almost every two weeks from far further south in the UK than these filter people. It must be that the filter suppliers don't have much of a volume going through DPD.

I found another supplier - the same ten 5 micron 10" sediment filters for £15.90 post free, dispatched within 3 hours and on their way via Royal Mail.

Incidentally I can't speak highly enough of DPD. Consistently on time with deliveries. Two nights ago the delivery slot was 1928-2028. At about 1830 the local DPD depot phoned to say the van had a puncture, the tyre had shredded, and the delivery would be delayed until the morning. No problem, I said. At around 2000 there was a knock on the door. When the van was recovered to the depot the driver had loaded up what parcels he could into his own car and just carried on. That's service!! :-bd Hope he had business insurance.....

Services such as Hermes depend very much on the quality of the courier.

These so-called tracked courier packages are a sham! Anything destined for Orkney is deemed to be "delivered" once it reaches Aberdeen or, very occasionally, Kirkwall. For my island, Stronsay, there is just one registered haulier who lives on the island and travels to Kirkwall almost every weekday, collects packages from the depot, returns to the island and delivers to the door on Wednesdays & Fridays. Sometimes heavy items (white goods, etc) have to wait until Saturday. The same haulier also takes cattle & sheep to/from the market in Kirkwall.

I had a new one turn up without warning sometime last year. The old one still works though.

Now we just have two factor authentication using your mobile phone. Best explanation is 'what you know' and 'what you have'.

We also got some weird offer to tie all our different money caches into one in some way, like log into Bank A and access Credit Card B and stock broker C. Gave that a stiff ignoring.

They all use different variations. I have A, B and C on Apps. I access my phone using biometrics and then use biometrics to access the Apps. Or I can use their Web sites. My phone helpfully remembers all my passwords so it's all quite secure, as long as I don't lose my eyes at the same time as I lose my phone.

Unfortunately despite my years of trying to get her too , she’s inherently honest :((

Ibbie and Wodrick, any volcanic gas come your way? It's been detected in Barcelona but in minute amounts. Rain coupled with wind from the South might be acidic.
