You might remember that British coins were the same as Cypriot ones and in general circulation.
Remember I was there pre 1971 and the UK conversion to decimal currency.

All of the UK 'silver' coins, bar the half-crown, freely circulated in my time. There was a Cypriot 5 mill copper coin that was referred to as a 'penny' and a 250 mill or 5/- note.

How many times do you have to tell someone to do something or not do it before it sinks in? Every bloody week I repeat standing orders to our garden monkey and he forgets after two days. He is 21 and not stupid. It is just in one ear out of the other. He uses his initiative, which is a worry, but usually to a good end but very simple instructions do not seem to go in. Probably another good flogging is required. Wanted to spank his sister, our dismissed housekeeper, but Mrs Ex-Ascot said that she may enjoy it.

But then, she's another bloomin' foreigner, from Yorkshire, no less. Serves me right.

Eight days ago Mrs C16 ordered some specialised plastic grids from a small craft company in the Midlands to help with her embroidery hobby. Cost £80 plus £3.95 postage. Today, after 8 days, she received an email to say the delivery charge was now £20.95 because of where we live and did she want to go ahead or cancel. Because she has difficulty hearing on the phone I rang to ask why they were charging so much. Usually it's because they think we are classed as "Highlands and Islands", which we are not, being just a 20 minute drive south from Aberdeen.

The female owner said it was UK Mail who set the charges. I said that perhaps she was using the wrong carrier as we never pay these inflated costs with DPD, Hermes etc. At that point I was informed in an irate voice that they were very busy and hadn't got time to discuss the matter. Did we want the delivery or not. It was an easy decision.

Eight days ago Amazon UK were not offering these items. Mrs C16 has now found them on their site with free delivery by them from the USA and all import duties and taxes included. A couple of quid saved on the items costs as well.

Once the refund has been received I shall be joining those who have posted damning reviews about the craft company. Silly people - it's not as though this was Mrs C16's first order with them but there will certainly be no more going their way. British customer service at its worst! X(

Just ordered some terminal strip through Amazon. £1.89, free delivery. I got an email saying that as the delivery is delayed, Amazon are putting a £2.99 delivery credit on my account. ??? The sender provided links. Yeah, right.

I thought I already posted this but can't see it elsewhere, if I did, don't all shout.

Found a nice little flat today. Small but tidy, balcony looking out over the Thames. Price ok, money left over for improving here and there. Lovely location.

Big mistake: told the wife I liked it. Whoohoo. Straight off the chart. Seems I was wrong. Fit neither for man nor beast, it seems.

As I have previously recounted somewhere hereabouts, I worked with someone who always did the opposite of what I told him.
I soon discovered how to 'manage' him . . .

Bournemouth beach yesterday evening. It is absolutely unbelievable. I am lost for words. These people should be deported to frog land.

If it wasn't for the potential harm to wildlife, I'd leave the mess there for them to come back to tomorrow.

Trouble is llondel the mess is left there overnight as the cleaners can't get in until first light their following day.

The problem for early morning dog walkers is they leave food and hot charcoal too.

Last year, on the beach designated for dog walkers an extended family set up a compound on the dog beach as close as they could get to the car park then complained when dogs do what dogs do - hunt food, pee and poo.

Sir, they have to be so moronic they probably wouldn't notice.

The council should charge for use of the beach to pay for the cleaning. That would also limit numbers.

They did. 558 parking tickets for illegal parking 👹 not to mention ordinary car park charges.

Here is a first hand account of how they clean the beaches:

They start at first light apparently. They have a tractor that scraps stuff up. I have no idea how they deal with the tide. Say it’s low tide when everyone goes home and leaves their crap, then high tide at night....

They only used to do the non-dog beach but now do both.

Then they have guys out with little beach vehicles with rubbish bins on the back to pick up big stuff like umbrellas and seats that get left.

Individuals then go round the sand dunes picking up the litter there manually (although this is hit and miss and sometimes does not get done). This litter is generally glass bottles, cans, lots of tiny canisters of some kind of gas party goers like to inhale and soiled loo paper.

Because the physical litter picking around the dunes and BBQ area is hit and miss by the council, volunteers at Sandbanks meet up in the morning and do a litter patrol.

The bins are now emptied daily on the prom by the council and although there are recycling bins and general waste, I observed them all get chucked into the same bin lorry the other day. They also pick up all the overflowing waste and follow the trails where foxes and gulls have had fun with it.

And as a final check, Woodie digs through the sand to clear up bones, sandwich crusts etc left behind... and sometimes the odd lump of tasty fat laden charcoal.

Our local beach (Portobello) has seen large crowds in recent days. It's messy, but gets cleared up, thankfully. Sadly, though, a local (and responsible) dog owner has encountered hypodermic needles and syringes scattered on the sand. Fckn disgrace.

The TV news is illustrated with 'single mum saying how she can't . . . " or "Old man whose operation has been postponed . . . ". or worker whose job is about to go.

Where do they find these people? Do people ring up and say me me or do they knock on doors?
