Re: Rant of the Day v2.
All NZ Petrol stations, of whatever brand, refuse to display the price of the Premium - 95 Oct. - fuel on their roadside signs. I usually use the lower rated 91, which is posted, but today was driving my wife's car, needing 95, in a nearby town, and filled up at that B.P. station 'cos their posted 91 rate was 2c ( big deal ! ) cheaper. When I got home, out of nothing but idle curiosity, I rang my local station and asked for their price today of their 95 product, i.e. had I made a good deal or been shafted ? They refused to tell me due to B.P. policy to refuse to give petrol prices over the telephone. How f***ing stupid.
I've written to the Internet posted B.P. Customer Disservice site and advised that they need my money to pay their staff salaries, amongst other things, and I have a choice, so Goodbye B.P. Do you think they will care ? Answers on the back of a postage stamp.

ExSp33, in UK we have several Apps where prices are available. At least one is official but there are others where users post prices: one such is WAZE another is the unimaginative PetrolPrices.

I've seen it happen too. I remember seeing an early one boot into DOS but Linux makes more sense for the modern world. Imagine having to pay for 400 Windows licences for a widebody - way cheaper to use Linux.Pontius Navigator wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2020 12:18 pmI l have seen that IFE uses Linux and seen it rebooted from time to time.

IIRC the Thales system on our A330s ran under XP. Sometimes they ran for a whole flight.

Good question. Projector clock shining on ceiling over bed hasn't twigged clock change yet. Wrist band changed five minutes ago. Birds outside don't care.

Stopped at a different brand station today and mentioned the intransigence of the B.P. jobsworth. Us too, was the reply, but download our App. Not being a Smartfone devotee, Apps ( ugly word ) and Facebook pages are not available to me.ExSp33, in UK we have several Apps where prices are available.

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
Central heating boilers! Bah.
Boiler started dripping a couple of weeks ago. Not much, maybe 30-40ml overnight. I called the local CH company and explained the problem. First appointment was next Thursday morning; £75+VAT for the callout, gets you the engineer for 1 hour, call if it's an emergency. OK. Boiler has now stopped dripping; I've played with the pressure; no change, no leaks. If I cancel the visit, no doubt the whole bloody thing will give up, flooding the utility room and the rest of downstairs. If I go ahead with the visit, it'll be an eighth of a turn of a nut, hit the heat exchanger with a large spanner (maintenance to knock any rust off) and early coffee break.
Bah, again!

Cat walked across keyboard.
Keyboard stopped making letters, only clicking sound from speakers.
Couldn't figure out how to restore function except to restart computer.
Catsitting for my daughter, could become long term thing, so training is beginning. Sleep on router OK, walk on keyboard NO-NO.

Teach your cat to type and force it to sign a literary contract and set it about writing detective novels and about cat burglary, the pawfect murder and that kind of thing!PHXPhlyer wrote: ↑Sun Oct 25, 2020 4:36 pmCat walked across keyboard.

Not my cat, hopefully.
Since she is my daughter's, she would probably be better at texting.
The kitten is just getting acclimated. My daughter was fostering her and discovered that the kitten was pregnant at only about six months old, She had a litter of three who were adopted out after they were weened. The kitten/mother had a new home lined up but they backed out at the last minute.
I can't afford any more mouths to feed. There is already one foster cat that became permanent and three puppies that my other daughter fostered then adopted. The puppies have totally bonded with her and are still in the chewing /house breaking stage. Just got snipped the other day.
Running this menagerie is not how I want to spend retirement, but I can handle it during Pan(ic)demic Lockdown.
Oh well!

Well not your cat ever in the sense that cats are never owned but own you. There's a statistic that says for every cat there are at least three people who think they own that cat!PHXPhlyer wrote: ↑Sun Oct 25, 2020 5:24 pmNot my cat, hopefully.

If that happens, tap each shift, ctrl and alt key, plus any of the other fancy keys along the bottom. That usually fixes it. Sometimes it gets into a mode where it thinks one of them is permanently pressed.PHXPhlyer wrote: ↑Sun Oct 25, 2020 4:36 pmCat walked across keyboard.

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
Car wouldn't start earlier in the week, so I went on the bus shopping, thus reduced the amount I was prepared to carry.
Went back today, only to find that the things which I didn't get last time were out of stock.
