Not a drop of rain fell today on my walk down to Greenwich and sun and breeze have reddened my cheeks disgracefully. Do not expect this weather in December. And a half of Guinness, cod and chips and a coffee cost £13.40. Appallingly cheap.

(Will this do, Magnus ? Best I can come up with.)

Hopefully the traffic will be mostly outbound.

Reminds me of the joke about the Paki who saved up for ages for a ticket to Islamabad, goes to the travel agency, and is told the fare has gone up by £1. He goes out and stops the first passer by and asks for "£1 for my ticket back to Pakistan" . Chap pulls out £20 and says "Here you are, and take 19 of your mates with you too."

Inflation rules .... when I first heard that the fair was £5 and he paid in cash from the "cookie" jar that he had kept in the kitchen for loose change, and he was short by sixpence, went outside and asked for sixpence to fly to Karachi, was given half-a-crown and told to take 4 of his friends with him !

"Mostly outbound" ? From which Country ? as has recently been posted ... Wogs Begin At Dover ..... Which way ?

Is it yet another Americanism?

It seems that today, any piece of music, particularly recorded music, to be called 'A Song'.

To me, music with a vocal is a song, there are many pieces of music that are simply 'instrumentals', these are not songs.

Has the word 'tune' been banned by 'elf & safety' or some such?

I spent the morning walking from Post Office to PO trying to find one that would issue an International Driving Permit, as the Royal Mail Website says they do. Not one would: each referred me to another which, when I arrived, said they did not. A complete fiasco.

I used to get mine from the AA.

Have things changed?

IDP's are only issued by certain Post Offices. There are 5 around Islington

No, they don't ! I visited four today in Islington. Pursed lips, indrawn breath,"Sorry sir we don't do that. Try Old Street PO..." Walked down to the City, "No, not here, try Trafalgar Square PO..."

Most POs today are run as franchises by independent contractors who have to provide minimum specified functions but the rest are optional. Essex Rd doesn't do any driving licences; Old Street does UK driving licences up to age 70 but not renewals over that age and not IDPs. The IDP costs £5.50 I think. For three pounds more the AA and RAC do it online and post the licences to your abode.

As I said, AA and RAC do it online for about £8.50. Post Office, if you can find one that does it, is visitors only for £5.50. For £35 I'd expect it to be delivered by a nude Nubian wench, nested between her enormous quivering knockers.

OFSO why don't you do it online?
Probably has to remember the name of his Grandmothers second dog, to sign in ?

Posted to Canada by the RAF in 1956, I bought an International licence to take with me. When it arrived I noticed the phrase ... Not Valid in the USA or Canada ! (maybe it is now ? ) Have related elsewhere how easy it was to get a Canadian licence anyway, ( even for our colleagues with no previous driving experience, whom we then took out and taught to drive ! ) so no problem. The Canadian licence also stated my age, which was over 21, so served more as a Drinking Licence.
.......as the Royal Mail Website says they do.

Can't believe "official" websites anyway. Our local Council have just opened a new Recycling Centre, which saves me a 90 Km round trip to the previous nearest one. The Council website stated that the new site accepted old engine oil, so went along with a couple of litres in a used milk bottle from my last motor bike change, to be me by the resident "Jobsworth" who told me not to disgrace his site with that muck ( or words to that effect ) and that The Council had not got the necessary licence to dispose of oil. Go away.

When the Council closed our previous town site some years ago, necessitating the 90 Km trip to another one, they then wondered why they were suddenly having to spend thousands of dollars cleaning up rubbish from the local forests and streams. Not rocket science ! ( no, I didn't ! )

Radio jingles and adverts that contain loud beeping noises. Driving an unfamiliar rented car for the last few days with the radio on, every now and again I heard a series of loud beeps and was momentarily distracted thinking it was a warning alarm of some kind.

Unfortunately I don't even know what the advert was for so I can't even boycott whatever product of service it purports to promote.

There used to be two different International Driving Permits.

Dunno if this is still true.

Just found out I can get a Polish one for twenty quid cash from a bloke I met in the corner shop. No probs. A Nigerian offered me an even cheaper one but wanted my bank details....
