I used to use Norton. My ISP in those days was Freeserve and Compuserve. No scams though as those addresses are long gone.

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
Just emptied a bottle, and asked for the spare, to be informed by SM that she hasn't been able to find any in the shops.
A quick Giggle found the reason.

I blame the Dutch and the Septics. HP sauce is now made in the Netherlands(!) (thanks Kraft!, although I did read that some of the sauce manufacture is coming back to the UK, but I don't think HP was included.

Mrs OFSO, a brilliant cook although she still thinks she's cooking for large numbers in the hotel she sold years ago, so every lunch we have a choice of dishes... reflected in my waistline...... makes all sort of amazing sauces, and the HP in the fridge is rarely, if ever, called for.
Re: Rant of the Day v2.
The local Aldi currently has HP Sauce & Lea & Perrins Worcestershire sauce in their special buys section. Had a look and the L&P labels are faded and the sauce seems to have stratified, even more so than the usual sediment settling. Must have a look to see if they have a use-by date.

One has to be careful with Worcestershire Sauce...

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
Thank you Ian for explaining our shortage of HP sauce down here. Managed to find a bottle of VIP sauce in Spar which is a good enough substitute. We only use it when making cheese on toast.ian16th wrote: ↑Sat Jun 05, 2021 4:35 pmJust emptied a bottle, and asked for the spare, to be informed by SM that she hasn't been able to find any in the shops.

Hence they run very good promotions when the sell by date comes close. I manage to get 1+1 Löwenbräu 500 cl can with a sell buy date 07/21 for 1.4 € per can.

RiS, that'll be a challenge then.
I remember being issued compo that might have soon qualified as vintage, the true 25 Yr vintage.

I remember getting Horlicks tablets handed out from Safety Equipment.
They were removed from the dinghy packs on Major or Minor Services as out of date.

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
Where our community joins the main road a large triangular piece of empty land was left when the town Council altered the entrance to make it "safer." For the past five months a very large French registered panel truck has been parked there, mostly. Some days it disappears for a few hours, just sufficient to, oh let's say for the purpose of argument, possibly drive up to France and back. Just speculating. Now and then when I pass, the double back doors are open and a locally registered van is backed right up to the rear with its doors open. Maybe not always the same van. Can't see inside either vehicle. I'm sure it's all completely and totally innocent. Someone with time on his hands might well wonder whether goods are being brought from France into Spain, or the reverse. And what, and why...

How far is Andorra? Is it still duty free?

Three or four hours drive, depending. No idea about excise duty. Having an Andorra-plated car in Catalunia is an invitation to get stopped by the police.

That suggests duty doesn't it. Years ago we drove in from France. We passed border post probably WW2 vintage, wooden hut, barrier up, unloved and unmanned. In Case de la passe was a huge square and every sort of Duty free. One thing missing was a cash machine. Returning to France was a massive customs shed. Ultra modern, about a dozen red lanes and one green. The French all went through the green channel and none were stoppec.

Makes one lust for the James Bond Aston Martin with the variable number plates.Pontius Navigator wrote: ↑Mon Jun 07, 2021 1:48 pmThat suggests duty doesn't it. Years ago we drove in from France. Once picked up a parking ticket in Austria. I had Cypriot plates. I ran the border and two weeks later I had new plates. Did they even try and find me? All my Cypriot docs were in the car for the Cypriot police were no longer interested when you left the island. I can t remember mission I signed out at Limasol and boarded a boat at Famagusta.

Not duty, more like police hatred of rich buggers living full time in Spain but enjoying tax-free Andorra.

Raises a few questions.Pontius Navigator wrote: ↑Mon Jun 07, 2021 2:41 pmOnce picked up a parking ticket in Austria. I had Cypriot plates. I ran the border and two weeks later I had new plates. Have you ever been back to Cyprus?
If so, did you 'arrive' in the Republic or the SBA?
If you arrived in the SBA, is there an exchange of information between the two authorities?
If you'd like to go back, dare you?
Do you care?
On a personal level, I 'arrived' and 'departed' to and from the republic, at RAF Nicosia and didn't have my passport stamped.
But while there, I did 'depart' and 'arrive' in the SBA (Akrotiri), with passport stamps, for a detachment to Karachi, via a night stop in Tehran.
SM, who arrived and departed on the same flights as I, had the RAF Police at RAF Nic, stamp her passport!
Make of it all what you will.

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
We went back a couple of times while No1 was quartered there. First time was a hoot. SiL took us the the Limassyacht club for lunch. Very swish. "I'll have a glass of wine"
Much confusion and they went to a shop to buy a bottle.
We did a trip to Paphos and turned right round.
Next time we used Paphos airport and had a great time
