I do not know of any cars being assembled and then disassembled to make a Knock Down kit but certainly thousands of cars and other vehicles were exported from the UK as 'Knock Downs'. These were more often than not only partial kits with the country of destination to supply the rest, tyres, battery, upholstery and bodies even.

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
I read with interest how the Triumph 1300 series was not the success hoped for. I had one, loved it, huge petrol tank for its time, almost 12 gallons and a range of 360, the front tyres lasted almost as long too. Front wings rusted through, which was normal for the 60s, they had a sealed box section in each wing. The solution was to cut a hole in each under the bonnet.
They were popular in Malta. The Malts replaced the Triumph badge on the wing side panels with the George Cross emblem. They were said to be better than British models. They were probably knock down.
Not knock down were Hillman Californians. My father would carry them as deck cargo to the USA. Very smart, cream with red roofs. They were miniature compared with US cars.
A few years later I was taught how to drive in a BMS Hillman Minx (huge compared to today's school cars) by an ex-armoured car driver. All I remember of him was a pin in the rear window as a reversing guide and his nicotine stained fingers, browner than the Duchess of Sussex.

The first Hyundai's sold in SA were imported from Botswana! Where they had been 'assembled'.
Apparently they did very little more assembling that putting on the wheels.
This got them round the local Customs Union tariffs.

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
The knock down principal is still used in the US to avoid taxes. Mercedes Sprinters for the "civilian" market are shipped to the US as complete units. The "commercial" products are shipped as separate running gear and bodies to be assembled in the US. This allows the commercial vehicles to dodge some sort or importation tax.

Please examine the pin as a reversing guide. I seem to remember pen marks under the back window on my driving instructor's car, but its 58 years ago and my memory is fading !

Now shopping for new fridge. First place (outlet store) said "sorry, low inventory" and had high prices. Second, same, blamed supply problems. Will try big box home improvement store tomorrow. Hoping for better selection.

RiS, some times you get lucky. We were moving house and a month before, Boxing Day, and keeping out of way of MiL, I was idly browsing for all our new kitchen appliances. A big direct seller had a discounted sale - that is a sale with extra discount. I used TopCash back and bagged an extra percentage off and then bought the 3 appliances that they agreed to keep until we needed them 6 weeks later.
I returned to the site the following week, sale was still on but without the discount.

I remember the presence of a matchstick on the rear window of my instructor's car, for use during reversing manoeuvres.
Re: Rant of the Day v2.
Hate! Hate! Hate!. Stoopid American Captcha thingy to validate my CC details. Nine grainy images of US road scenes and you have to click on ones that fit their criteria.
Road junction taken from two miles away click on those that include palm trees or bloody bicycles. Not having exactly 20/20 vision and very grainy images ?? Emailed supplier and suggested that if not interested in my business then please add a banner to their site stating people without 20/20 vision please go away.

News articles that state 'Stunning' or 'Shocking' or '...Here's why" in their headlines
Invariably they are not stunning or shocking and the 'here's why' is an opinion piece, not news...makes me so mad.... :/

Will be very interesting to hear what sort of feedback you get, Alison. Agree with that Captcha thingy. Can be very tedious having to click on everything that has whatever they are asking for.Emailed supplier and suggested that if not interested in my business then please add a banner to their site stating people without 20/20 vision please go away.

I feel that If I have spent time beforehand on the site, it goes very fast just a couple of clicks. If you go straight to log-in you get to learn about cars, crossings and hills... Not that it helps much but I just realized it.

My current (long-running) Bête Noire (can I say that?) is the persistent insistence on preferences for cookies - even though declared and 'saved' the same intrusive question is demanded on subsequent visits.
Re: Rant of the Day v2.
Now, one of my frequently-visited sites has installed and ad-blocker blocker making the site infuriating with intrusive adverts overwhelming the original content.

One of my favourite sites recently had five adverts on the page over parts of the content, and one of the ads overlapped another!
