Oh the sheer stupidity of some people. Clip on BBC news today of some woman and her friends who spend hours each day on Facebook 'policing it' for hate posts. Do people who are offended by all these Social Media sites not realise they are not compulsory ? Don't like it, don't go there !

I had thought of saying that any post headed by the 11th and 3rd letters of the alphabet, separated by an ampersand, is automatically ignored by myself, but that would have been a Vettel Moment.

They’re starting to be fun though. I’ve stopped regarding the idiot posts with any kind of seriousness and see the guys down at the Railway Arms getting up and moving to the door muttering “Oh fcku, he’s here again” as he comes in.

Expletive deleted main water pipe entering house sprang a pinhole leak in the "garden" i.e. mountainside. I keep one spare joiner handy and set a new record in cutting out leak and rejoining cut ends. More joiners than black plastic pipe on the 15m run. Pipe seems to have a life of about ten years. Ludicrous.

Just seen in paper, if you speed on the continent you will be pursued for the crime. TWO YEARS AGO we signed up for Mutual Legal Assistance so foreign police can catch you. This was over a year after we voted out.

Bet it doesn't work the other way.

I think that that the word Mutual is a clue :D

Woody, I was thinking about how thoroughly our NHS seeks payment from Europeans. Admittedly did see a receptionist at Grantham requiring a Pole's passport.

The BBC are going to withdraw free TV licences for the over-75s unless they are on pension credits. That will mean lots of elderly people will now be subject to the thuggish, threatening letters from TV Licensing.

The BBC conducted a "consultation" last year and 48% voted for no change to TV licensing whilst the other 52% voted for a combination of other options. The BBC has taken that as the majority voted for change - they've obviously based their decision on the mathematics of the EU Election results. Is FPTP now dead in the UK?

I was looking forward to claiming my free TV licence next month so that I could access the BBC Player - I haven't had a licence (nor used a TV) since we went digital ten years ago as I cannot receive a digital signal as I live down a steep hill with the valley side between me and the transmitter.

OPTION 1
I am OK with personalised ads
We and our advertising partners will use your data to show you ads that you might be interested in.

OPTION 2
I do not want to see personalised ads
We will ask our advertising partners not to show you personalised ads. Please note that you will still see advertising, but it will be less relevant.
What if I don't want to see fecking adverts at all? No option for that.

This week they want to take away their TV licences.

They're still giving a 50% discount to blind people though. Image

Oh we see you're running an ad blocker! Please go to your settings and turn it off to continue your viewing experience. Our website relies heavily on advertising revenue to maintain it. Thank you.
So to read your trash I have to download your useless advertising sh!t that I won't even look at anyway? Fark that! I'm on a daily 4G data limit so I'll use another site that contains similar to what you have and keep my ad blocker ON! Thank you. :ymtongue:

That's my general approach too. Your average ad server is a potential source of dodgy javascript that can inject all sorts of nasties onto your PC. When they promise to reimburse all my losses should I catch something from their site, I might consider it. If they did server-side ad broking then all the dodgy code would run on their site and I'd just see static images served from their machine that an ad blocker would have trouble blocking, so a win all round. They'd have incentive to run efficient code that didn't bog down their servers, users would see an improvement because their PCs wouldn't be running all that bloated javascript and a malware vector would be eliminated for web users.

Re sites that cover the screen with the "turn off your adblocker" crap. On some of them you can refresh the page, and hit stop before the script runs.

I'll turn it off for sites that deliver a relevant service and the ad count is 10 or less. Sometimes the counter may go up to about 200, that's abuse and would waste several times the bandwith of the article.

Dentistry rip-off.

Guess the answer to this :

Maybe 4 or 5 years ago, I had a gold crown fitted after a ceramic one cracked twice. I had to pay about £200 for the gold itself. Now the crown has come out, which in fairness the dentist warned me 6 months ago was imminent, and is to be replaced by an implant, which will cost me a trifling £2000 or so, but that's another story.

The gold which cost me £200 then is now worth, to the dentist :

a) £200
b) £55
c) £300
d) £0.45
e) 300,000,000 Zimbabwe dollars
f) none of the above
g) f*ck all
