Now if women want equality, I think it's time that women's departments of large shops(or at least 50% of them) were put on the first floor. It being warm in the northern latitudes at the moment, one has taken to wearing shorts, but I needed an additional pair, so orf I went to Rushden Lakes, our local shopping area, which houses all the usual suspects, M&S, Next, H&M etc. In every case, the men's dept was on the first floor and it was ever thus, as I remember. I should add that clothing shops are not places I spend a lot of time in. Give me a bookshop any day. At least they are 'gender equal'. I think I might write a letter to The Times - that should stir up some controversy!

You didn't miss much, PN. I've lived in the area for nearly eight years and it's the first time I've done a full tour of the shops! The car park is (normally) a total nightmare. Plans are afoot for an extension, apparently, and a new road from the cinema side of the complex.

We were passing through, 2019, hot day, opportunity shop, realised we could lose an hour or more to no benefit and too hot for the dog in the car.

Yes, no chance of any shade. I think its success has exceeded all expectations, when you consider that the high street shops are closing by the minute.

A few weeks ago Natwurst sent me a new Credit card to replace the one just routinely expired. They didn't include the PIN, but advised that the PIN number was unchanged, so could use the new card in the Card Reader gadget immediately. Didn't work, PIN denied. "Chat" was a waste of time as usual, but was able to request "PIN reminder" from the general website. This has arrived by very slow snail mail today, and surprise, surprise, they confirm that the PIN is indeed the one I have been using for the past few years, so why didn't it work when I first received the new card ? It does now, unchanged.

Some 5 weeks lost being unable to access my UK Natwest account. Ain't the digital age wonderful ?

Only one delivery of post up here to our urbanisation in the last seven weeks "because of Covid" but today I was amazed to see them coming up the hill and stopping at almost every letterbox. A catching-up with our mail, perchance? No, the mailman was bringing income tax 2020 reminders. Other post as well? No.

And of course, if the tax office wants money from YOU they send a registered letter. If they are paying a refund, they send the letter by ordinary mail, and the default option is that if you not respond to the letter within a few working days, it is assumed that you don't want the refund and the refund is repaid to tax office funds.

The sad demise of sub editors ...

Yahoo is scraping this from the (formerly) competent Telegraph:

We face a third wave of Covid-19 and the dye may already have been cast
Paul Nuki Sun, 13 June 2021
Don't cub reporters even attempt an English qualification anymore?

To be fair, Paul Nuki (Senior Editor, Global Health Security and Campaigning Journalism, Telegraph Media Group) has the correct (or corrected) spelling on his Twitter account.

The Yahoo scrape however is now seared into today's Net archive.

Was just supposed to be arriving in Edgbaston to watch my first Test Match cricket for 18 months, but due to complete incompetence of the English batsmen, I’m stuck with Mass and a birthday bbq for friends of MrsWoody, so the highlight of the day is going to be Air Force One departing LHR after the President’s Afternoon Tea with HMQ :((

Also note the stating the bleeding obvious at the end of the sentence; why else would firemen* be there if there hadn't been a ffffffire! 8-|

Oops,* sorry I should have said firefighters. :D

Mrs Ex-A, the Fire Service crews now carry out CPR and otherwise assist the ambulance service. The FBU objected to this extension of role but the retained fire fighters, rather more community orientated, like the RNLI, were much more amenable.

I also see official definitions that over 70s is considered older so she was a mere striping.

Was just notified by my cable/internet provider that my rate was scheduled to go up by more than 33%. :-o ~X(
No room to wiggle as any cost decreases would result in serious downgrade in product (channels) and service (internet speed).
After 25+ minutes on the phone I was able to negotiate only a 10% increase.
Almost made me feel like I came out ahead. NOT! [-X
Great business plan. Almost automatic 10% annual increase in revenue while making customers appreciate their corporate generosity. X(

A phone contract in RiS care expired and the increase announced during a call to the customer service was from 14 € to about 18. The company was firm so after a short discussion at a company store, the best option was to make it a pay as you go despite an increase in the fixed line contract. So RiS father submitted a request to change the contract to a PAYG. Immediately the monthly fee dropped to 15 € which is more acceptable. So a similar experience although it might have worked better if I had submitted a request to change phone providers as I did a couple of months ago.

I switched my wife's mobile from £5/m contract, she only had 2G, to PAYG. She now has 4G but doesn't use data away from home. She eventually used £10 of credit in 14 months.

Phone companies were allowed by OFTEL to impose new credit to be added every two months instead of once a year a few years back. So minimum cost to maintain the use of the number is 7.5 €. It is expensive and it is a rant.
