The Not green goblin
The grass was green... =))
But nor for much longer in this heat. It will be a nice pale shade of fawn very soon! :))
It will be a sad day in the sunny South East of England if the grass turns to the brown desiccated colour I used to achieve with the lawn in Johannesburg... =))

I fear there is every possibility. I am planning to have a little sprinkle on my lawn each evening...

I see the Metropolitan Police have received another £350k for their next round of summer holidays in the Algarve to carry on their investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. That takes the total expenditure of Public Funds on this investigation to over £12million since it started in 2011. What is it about this case which justifies such expenditure over such a protracted period of time? Do other missing persons enquiries receive the same level of funding?

I'm sure if you had a relative go missing in a nice holiday destination you'd get the same level of service.

llondel, I am not sure if there should be a cut-off point in such investigations as funds may be used better in other tasks.

Every missing person is a tragedy for the family concerned and this is no different. That said, many people go missing every year and do the police spend many millions of pounds on each case?

However, I wonder if the same level of service would have been provided if Wayne and Waynetta Slob* from some dreadful chav, inner-city sink estate had left their darling little Chardonnay Shiraz in their cabin whilst they went boozing and discoing at some dingy nightclub? My guess is that Social Services at the very least would be after them for child neglect like a Jack Russell after a rat.

This child has been missing for the best part of 14 years. Whatever happened to the presumption of death seven years after a person goes missing?

I tend to get on with Scousers for some reason. They may often be a bunch of scallies, but are often likeable scallies it seems. Not that I would dare suggest that you are a scally tango15! =))

I would hope not - otherwise I'd have to come round and put yer winders in - know worra mean? =))

The thing you have to remember TGG, is that the media in the north of England is controlled from Manchester. Ever since they had to build the Manchester Ship Canal to avoid paying demurrage and other charges imposed by the owners of the docks on the Mersey, they have had it in for us. :)) Having lived for about 20 years in both cities, I would say that there is more that unites them than divides them, but the rivalry will always be there, stoked at every opportunity by the media, especially when there is a game of football in the offing.

I remember the brouhaha when the city was accorded 'world heritage site status' back in 2004 (if I remember the year correctly). Tis a pity it has lost it, but a native I know suggested to me that it was the football stadium that did for them in the eyes of the world heritage folks (clearly all Manchester United supporters).

Talking of splendid things further away from Liverpool, there is a beautiful big orange moon squatting on the horizon tonight. Caused, I am guessing, by a certain amount of African dust or wild fire smoke from the south (OFSO and his confounded barbecues again) in the air tonight.

Warm and muggy here!
