My body clock hasn't recovered from the disruption of the last two weeks such that I didn't know what day of the week it was today.

Went to shop with receipt, took pair of shorts off rack (tagged at £24) and returned the shorts off rack and got a refund of £36. Bought rack pair back for £24.

I don't actually have too much objection to that. I bet the shop weren't selling shorts at £24 at a real loss - "Loss Leader", Yeah ! Right! so at £24 they were just losing the £12. extra profit they were normally ripping you off for.

Recently Mrs. ExS genuinely had a good reason to return something that she had bought "OnSale". She didn't have the receipt but the cashier just punched the computer, then gave her back "Today's" price. Tough.

We have a local store that "never" sells anything at full price. Every day there is some sort of "Sale", sometimes just off specific items, like all bedding, or all kitchen items, sometimes "30 - 60 % off everything in store, sale ends tonight".

Unfortunately it works, for them, Mrs. ExS and friends have "XXXXX ( name of store ) Disease," and has to visit almost every day, because of course it's "On sale" Yeah ! Right ! If I "need", or maybe just occasionally only "want" an item, I wait until that category is "On Sale",'cos if not I know I'm being ripped off.

ExSp, sometimes you get lucky and get a minimum wage slave that couldn't care less.

The On Sale special that annoys me are the ones on TV for a set of car tyres.

Who goes out and buys tyres, before you need them?

Thanks for pointing out that Slasher. I am inclined to advance a necessary purchase because of a sale but you may have a point here about buying something only when needed irrespective of a promotional sale.

Car tires are bought in sales here for two reasons.
The first is that you are getting a set of winter or summer tires for the vehicle you recently bought that has only the other set.
The second and far more common is that you are driving on an illegal set which your Inspection test mechanic has let you get away with until the sales are on. The tires themselves have already been rotated around the vehicle so most of them are shot. Ask me how I know this

We buy fuel before we need it. Is buying tyres so different?

Don't know. Don't use them.
I use all season, all terrain. My primary winter driving strategy is "Don't drive like a complete tw@t".
This has so far proved much more effective than the people who do and fit winter tires.

Italy, Wolverhampton, Idaho for sure, in my experience. Anywhere East of Suez, plus Turkey.

Do not rotate tires ! Leave 'em where they have got used to being.

If you have slightly misaligned wheels and frequently carry heavy loads, then rotating the wheels allows you to get a lot more miles out of a set of tires. As a vehicle gets older in a rural maritime climate, the ability to realign the wheels decreases, so it becomes uneconomic to fix the alignment system as this tends to involve major welding and replacement....and the Spring condition of the roads will then trash the new system anyway.

So you end up buying four tires at one time. Expensive ! My Mondeos get just over 50,000k on the fronts and the rears never wear out until I exchange the car at six years. Ford usually have a 'two for one' offer on tires so not rotating is a real money-saver.

By rotating tyres to 'even-out' wear simply moves the accelerated wear to previously evenly-worn tyres IMO.

G-CPTN, true to a point. If you have a misaligned wheel and consequent wear, if you then keep putting good tyres on the bad wheel you might scrub off more rubber.

Doing the traditional rotation will probably mean changing all 4 at once though depending on when you do it you might manage 2 and 2.

With modern cars and smart systems changing just one tyre can bugger up the system which will report problems.

Taking the excellent Inulin as a food additive has the side effect, in me, or rather out of me, as explosive flatulence. Now while in London over the Festive Season, we've been to a number of concerts, all classical until today's lunchime piano recital. With classical music one can judge fortissimo and piano sections and release one's flatules to be masked by the music at the appropriate time. Sadly today, listening to work by the avant-garde Hungarian composer Ligeti it was frightening how suddenly silent periods, during which one could hear the proverbial pin drop, occurred without warning just as one was preparing to release a louder version of a SBD or SLD into the arena. I feared being torn limb from limb by the brilliant pianist, so just clenched my nether portal as best I could. The result of the suppressed botty-bops was a noisome blast and warp factor 8 rush to the WC after the concert ended - and a sigh of pleasure and contentment missing while enjoying the music of the grand piano.

It depends on how the sale works. The most common one here is 4 for the price of 3, so changing all 4 at once makes sense.
