Re: Rant of the Day v2.
I'll put this here instead of the Coronabollocks thread.
Whilst the two grandsons have been staying with their dad, he's tested 'positive'. #2 grandson also tested 'positive' whilst #1 grandson tested 'negative'. This meant junior daughter was unable to get her boys back when their stay with their dad was finished and is understandably upset. This went on for four successive tests, then #1 grandson also tested 'positive' and should isolate for 10 ten days. The day after, a text message was received saying that the test laboratory had made a mistake and #1 grandson was actually 'negative' and had no need to isolate. Another text message has now been received, with a different account number, saying the first two texts were wrong and he is back to being 'positive' and has to have another PCR test. It's bloody upsetting and unnerving for an eight year old. Also #2 grandson was declared 'negative on Friday but has now been recalled for another test as the test result has been declared 'inconclusive'.
What the actual **** is going on with this NHS Test and Trace set-up? I've told junior daughter to get in touch with the BBC rather than writing to her MP, she'll probably get a speedier response than trying to contact her Westminster trough feeder. At the moment junior daughter doesn't know which way is up because of these shenanigans.

Effing German this morning, in a Mercedes, cut from overtaking me on outside lane to my left, in front of me (just), to lane on my right because he saw the sign "Garden Centre". Arschlock. Hope he bought poison ivy. Unconscionable cnunt.

Second day in a row Taskbar in Windoz 7 disappeared.
Google's advice to restore did not work.
Only a restart works but takes forever even with OS residing on SSD.
Anyone with suggestions?

#5460 This is what comes of believing anything our incompetent government does functions properly, of believing one has to obey orders resulting from some unknown lab., of giving a correct address and of giving an authentic phone number.
No way do I give my actual phone number if I visit somewhere where it's mandatory "so they can inform me if another person tests positive" or my correct residential address, not that anyone can ever find it or communicate by post, with one delivery a week.
We are surrounded by idiots. Treat them as such.

PHXPhlyer - get a copy of XP Service Pack 2. Works fine.
Re: Rant of the Day v2.
PHX - has it actually 'disappeared' OR
a) Have you moved it to another side of the screen? OR
b) Is it set to 'auto-hide'? OR
c) Is it 'Minimised'? OR
d) Have you changed the display size?

We have a couple of devices running 7. Not bad. Not as good as XP. Linux Mint is very good.

Unfortunately, he just confirmed that something in Windoz 7 is fcuked.

We are asked to sign in when going to the pool - despite booking a slot via a website and ask us about a phone and an email. I refuse to provide both but I answer about symptoms and vaccination/test.OFSO wrote: ↑Sat Sep 04, 2021 5:01 pm#5460 This is what comes of believing anything our incompetent government does functions properly, of believing one has to obey orders resulting from some unknown lab., of giving a correct address and of giving an authentic phone number.

What is it about some of our British knuckle-head motorists that makes them INSIST on inspecting my anus at close quarters in a 30 zone but when I accelerate to 40 in a 40 Zone they then drop back? Is it just that they have then satisfied their anal addiction?

Charging cables: I won a camera which operate on rechargeable battery. Obviously it comes with its own cable which (and here is my rant) has a different plug than another cable from the same manufacturer for another camera and in the same time-frame.

The beauty of having standards is that there are so many to choose from!!!

One would expect the manufacturer would like to have a standard cable to save on manufacturing and logistic costs

RiS, Amazon Fire 8 and 10 are different and there is a contactless one too.
You could get a multi cable. I have one with a jump starter battery cable.

How many connectors has Apple had for both computers and phones?
USB, mini-USB, micro-USB, and now type C for other devices, plus wireless q charging.
My Samsung 9+ USB-C charging port is buggered. Phone repairer wants $65. to fix.
Thank goodness for wireless charging capability. I even have a power bank with wireless Q ability.

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
Fortunately I moved from the first generation charging cable of smart phones to type C hence avoiding the mini/micro USB.Still more than one cable is needed with one at home, and at least another one to charge the device on the office/road using the power bank or the second charger. And as most devices are using mini-usb I have plenty of useless cables.
Re: Rant of the Day v2.
Apple Lightening cables and Apple computer charger cables have something in the insulation that is like catnip.
My daughters' cords have been chewed by their cats on several occasions. Being Apple their replacements are very spendy. I bought an aftermarket charger and the seller told that he sold many to replace cat chewed ones.
At least with the lightening cords they are sometimes at the dollar stores but usually only charge and not transfer data (4 vs ^ pin connector).

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
Mrs PN dug out a stack of cables and directed they be despatched to the garage. Several had the big square plug used by HP. Others had the next size down, mini?
It was all of 5 minutes before I had to retrieve the mini one.
