Haven't been near a restaurant for over two years now, but have just been awarded a "Certificate of Thanks" - a voucher for our local restaurant !

What act of kindness did you perform to earn that?

25 years voluntary service with the local Coastguard Air Patrol Unit, 12 as President / Pilot. The national body gave me a 25 year "pin", the local lot a $100 restaurant voucher.

Guess we will, can't throw away $100 food and wine.

What will NZ$100 get you at that restaurant? - a banquet or just a square meal?

52GBP would pay for a meal for two with house wine at a modest restaurant in the UK.

Dunno, haven't been for the last 5 years, found it very expensive last time. Probably only a main course each and a beer / glass of wine. Bottles its own wine, which it sells at eye watering prices.

Probably make it a Birthday Bash next month.

No heating, no hot water. System pressure is under 0.5 bar. BIL, builder plumber, came round, opened every cabinet, heater etc, could not find any way to top up system. Flabbergasted. Never seen anything like it. Will return tomorrow to fit a T in water mains, flex coupling to heating system.

Don’t think that heating is going to be an issue for the next few days B-)

It was about 31C this afternoon at the dog show. Kepler was trying out her new green cool coat.

BIL turned up. Put a T and tap in the cold water pipe, ran a hose thru the units to the boiler, topped it to one bar, I bled the radiators, and he left. Possibly fifteen minutes and cost £15 for parts.

Would the water service be liable for property damage?

IKEA really gone downhill. I've assembled many units (every day) since last Thursday. It used to be that pieces were jig-cut so putting cabinets side by side or beside drawer units meant the shut lines were perfect. No longer! Jigs worn, or more likely because the cabinets are made in Eastern Europe, the fronts in Italy, the hinges and slides in Germany, and various fixings who knows where. Everything used to be like a perfect jigsaw or an old Mercedes. Now it's more-or-less, like bodywork on an old Porsche. Many hours of fettling. . OK for the price but not for the perfectionist.

Thankfully it’s been a few years since I had to do battle with an IKEA instruction sheet, not as popular nowadays, I believe that they’re closing one of their bigger London stores.

Your good wife is clearly slacking in enforcing her God given mandate to torment you through Ikea visits and the concomitant assembly hell! =))

We still go, but fortunately don’t buy anything and just end up eating meatballs in the café :-o

Their meatballs are something else, probably suffused with some male mind bending narcotic, but so good! :)
