Re: The Smokin' Hot Where On Earth Thread Mk III
Da! Well done 4ma. I think you've been following me around!
It is the very place where the need for a woollen face cover, beloved of bank-robbers was born. I was told that a strong wind used to whistle up between the hills in winter and during the Crimean War, the soldiers asked for some protection, so the ladies back home got busy with their knitting needles and produced the ubiquitous garment. The entrance to the Soviet-era submarine pen under the hills is just to the left and is now accessible apparently, but not when I was there.
The periscope is yours, sir.

I think that this is the worlds largest enclosed Ferris Wheel at 190 feet tall located at the Elem Entertainment Center in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

Main economy is based on tourism, however there is recent military history, including a joint satellite tracking system base with the US.

And it's the Central Australian Aviation Museum in Alice Springs. The aircraft is a De Havilland Drover (Which I had never heard of before)

It is, built during the war, now houses a small collection of aircraft including a DC3 and early flying doctor aircraft.

Thank you om.
A change in country and subject. No prizes for guessing it is a pub. It is supposed to be a thousand years old!

So you now know that it is 1,000 years old and in Devon. If I add that it is reputed to be the oldest pub in Devon it shouldn't take someone long to find it.

Ok. I'll jump in and suggest it's the Masons Arms at Knowstone.

Just how many pubs are there in Devon that have got thatched roofs? Talk about needles and haystacks!
