I do apologise, I forgot to respond and to confirm your correct answer.
The photo was taken from just off Robben (=seal) Eiland (=Island).

Over to you, tango15.

No probs Capetonian. I knew those visits to Pretoria would come in useful one day! (For the things I learnt about ZA during the visits you understand!)

OK, folks, try this one for size:

I don't think it's Cuba. The building style does not look Cuban and I would expect big old yank tanks.

I would go for Argentina.

Looks a bit like something produced by the North British works - means it could be anywhere.

Not Uruguay, but the right part of the world.

No, not that far south. The President of this country was a keen angler.

Asuncion, Paraguay? The country has no coal reserves so all the steam locos are/were woodburners.

Having found a pic of loco 230 in Asuncion it looks like 4mast is right. Can I hazard a guess that it's somewhere along the Asunción-Encarnación line?

Edited to add a bit of speculation - as the coach colours are the national colours of Argentina is it a line connecting the two countries?

If you see my post #4844, that's why I went for Argentina, I would say that it is Argentinian rolling stock.

You've all done very well!

Yes, it's the train which ran the service to the Argentinian border at Encarnación. A wood-burning beast, built in Hunslet of all places. Somewhere I have a picture of the maker's plate. It used to run about twice a week. The old station (built by the British), sits in the middle of Asuncion and once the steam trains had been discontinued, was turned into a railway museum. Paraguay now has something in common Iceland, in that it does not have a railway!

I think 4mastacker deserves the prize.

The roof design makes me think it's a Buddhist country. Tibet?

Not Tibet. It is quite a distance from where you think it may be and it's not a Bhuddhist country.
