As usual, OM nailed it precisely. Our first night of the trip with floor to ceiling windows looking over the river and lovely river walk. Next night... a tent!

This city has around eight million inhabitants, industry includes pottery and ceramics, tourism and has a museum of a famous (infamous) hotel.

It is Hanoi, now a tourist destination, from the two photos the contrast between the old and the new is pretty high, many of the buildings are French style, the museum of the hoa Lo prison the "Hanoi Hilton" shows the conditions that the inmates suffered, built by the French it housed the unfortunate B52 crew members that were captured during the raids in the 1970s.
