Some bugger must have made a killing in the Stonehaven area and got a job lot of church contracts ‘cos they all appear to be the same bloody design!

We live about 7 miles west of Stonehaven. Maybe this clue will help. A photo taken at the adjacent castle to the church in WW2...

St Palladius Episcopal Church, Drumtochty. There doesn't appear to be much of a congregation close by, but maybe it was funded by the local landowner. The Episcopal church in the village we lived in near Aberdeen was also quite different to the usual rather austere Church of Scotland version. It was known as the 'English' church.

Well done FD2 - as you say, St Palladius Episcopal Church in Drumtochty Glen near Auchenblae, Kincardineshire – just four miles from my house and I often walk my dog in the forest behind. It was originally built as an estate chapel and stands in open ground belonging to Drumtochty Castle estate. The church sits in a small plot with a few gravestones.

It was built by Arthur Clyne for Rev. J S Gammell, the then owner of the castle, in 1885. It’s very popular for weddings with the reception being held in the nearby castle. Each year on the last Saturday in June the Drumtochty Highland Games are held in a field just past the church as you look at the photo.

Supplementary - what product is made from the island in the distance?

I forgot to add to my paragraphs that the Norwegian government in exile bought the castle during WW2 and exiled Norwegian children were educated there - hence the Norwegian flag.

Fairly sure that’s Ailsa Craig and the products are curling stones. Not too sure about the town, perhaps Girvan?

I landed on the beach at Ailsa Craig - can’t remember when or why!

All correct C16 - Ailsa Craig in the Firth of Clyde, curling stones and it is Girvan, with the Mull of Kintyre in the far distance. The fine grained blue hone granite has been quarried to make curling stones for many years. All the Olympic stones are made from Ailsa granite, with some others being made from a quarry in Wales.

The permanent AGI trying to detect the SSBNs going out on patrol used to sit a little further out and was always a target for a low pass. Sometimes they'd wave back unless the political commissar was around.

All correct FD2. The most westerly point on the British mainland, not Land's End as many think.
