#1 Post by 500N » Mon Aug 24, 2015 11:43 am

The Train heroes have been awarded France’s Légion d’Honneur, France's highest bravery award.

And deservedly so to.

Yes, I watched the press conference the Marines gave yesterday. They were a credit to themselves and their country.

However, it was interesting that they said the perp was hopeless with the weapon (untrained one sad), didn't know how to cock it, dropped it etc. And now it seems the guy says he found the bag in Brussels and decided to rob a train!!?? If he is a tango, he's bloody hopeless!
All generalisations are false, including this one.

Well done those guys. His lawyer said he wasn't a terrorist-he only wanted to rob people. Oh well, that's alright then

"The Train heroes have been awarded France’s Légion d’Honneur, France's highest bravery award."

I hope you don't mind a wee correction here. The Legion d'Honneur is given by the French republic to people it wants to honour, but not just for bravery. It is awarded to noted thespians, musicians, poets amongst others, as well as people who have given notable public service.

There are several "ranks" for the distinction. These brave chaps have been awarded "Chevalier" status. There are higher ranks.

Sorry, pedantry now put away till tomorrow.

It is true what you say. It is also France's highest award as they have none other.
You can only go up in the class of the honour.

Dead right 500N. The French make no distinction between reasons for the award, but there are ranks.

Except, no you are wrong. It is not the only award given by the French republic.

Look up the Medaille d'Honneur, Les Palmes Academiques and others.

Pedantry back in the fridge till further need.

I should have said " It is also France's highest award as they have none other" "Higher".

Meanwhile Mrs OFSO is stuck Right This Very Minute in Valance railway station as a suspicious suitcase has been abandoned on the platform and everyone has been evacuated. We do, really, live in Interesting Times.

Yet another abandoned AK-47?
Because they stand on the wall and say "nothing's gonna hurt you tonight, not on my watch".

Yep. In Europe people are discarding their guns at quite an impressive rate. They've seen the light.

Well done all the guys, including the French bloke. Bravery at its very best and France's highest honour that has nothing to do with cheese is well deserved.
The perp is lying and squirming in such an inventive way.

It would not have been that bearded oafs idea, the train robber thing would have been dreamed up by his bloody brief.

Give the perp a fair trial. With proper Legal representation, before a correctly constituted Court of Law.

Then take him out and shoot him!

Problem 'solverd!'*

BS

Give him the same trial and justice he was going to give the train passengers.

None.

Just shoot him, with a bullet covered in pigs fat.

I will have to check the last few days newspapers but I seem to remember reading somewhere that when the perp was being overpowered he actually yelled out the words
'Give me back my Gun!'

It is a pity that the Blokes who clobbered him did not do so. The Ammunition first of course, but only the projectiles!

Pinky

They did give him back the gun. One of them "muzzle thumped him" in the head multiple times
when they were beating him unconscious !

I'm aware of that 500N. What I find somewhat incredulous is that the perp actually uttered those words!

Did he really expect then to comply??? :?

You'd be surprised at what some people do when given "authoritative" commands,

I bailed a young bloke who was "checking out my car" at 6.00am (seeing if anything worth stealing".

He stood there, answered questions, emptied his back pack out, let me take photos of him before I sent him on his way.
