As a 14 year-old schoolboy on a school trip to Austria I was taken to a concert in a small hall in central Salzburg where a string quartet played Eine Kleine Nachtmusik by candle-light with the candle flames swaying in time to the music.

I was obviously moved by the experience - which I recall every time I hear EKN played (as it is now on the radio) - but I wish that I had been older and had acquired my present appreciation of classical music.

Peter Green sang this on his route out of schizophrenia and the anti psychotic drugs that made him put on so much weight ... bitter sweet...

This is just a great bunch of drummers going at it and it it so sad, to me, to see how Phil Collins has deteriorated to a point that he can no longer play the drums.

I saw him in concert at Ellis Park in the mid nineties.

Great song and the best video I have seen attached to the sad events that prompted Mr McLean to write and sing that song. The song was also a staple of my misspent youth. I also enjoyed the musical Buddy very much. Pretty sad though.

A salient reminder to all those who would fly or fly in light aircraft.

A lot of folks associated James Taylor's Fire and Rain with the death of his girlfriend in an air crash but that is/was a myth...

The truth is equally depressing mind you...
The “Suzanne” mentioned in the lyrics to “Fire and Rain” wasn’t Taylor’s girlfriend or fiancée, but rather an acquaintance (Suzanne Schnerr) whom he had met while he was a teenager in New York in 1966-67, performing with friends Danny Kortchmar and Joel O’ Brien, as part of a group called The Flying Machine. As quoted in Timothy White’s biography of him, Taylor said that “I knew Suzanne well in New York, and we used to hang out together and we used to get high together; I think she came from Long Island. She was a kid, like all of us.”

A few years later, after Taylor had decamped to London and was finishing up his debut album for the Beatles’ Apple Records label, he found out that Suzanne had committed suicide several months earlier, and that his friends had withheld the news from him so as not to let it distract him and derail his career...
